It is natural for the human foot to strike with the ball or forefront of the foot, not the heel. The Minimalist or "Barefoot" theory states that thick-soled shoes fight the foot's natural tendency to land between the mid-foot and ball of the foot. The best Minimalist shoes promote better balance and allow the runner to land on the ball of the foot instead of the heel. This potentially reduces pain and injury and creates a more efficient runner.
