Buying Tips

Experienced poker players prefer a heavier chip crafted from quality materials. These chips offer a better tactile experience and casino-like quality during play.

  • Poker chips are generally made of metal, plastic or clay. Standard casino chips are molded from a clay-composite material, which maintain a nice heft in the player’s hand during the game.
  • Metal poker chips feature a metal core encased in plastic. This brand of chip can also sometimes be found in casinos and are extremely durable.
  • Plastic poker chips are great for beginners and novice players.
  • Most quality poker chips weigh between 7.5 and 14 grams. Composite and metal chips are the heaviest. The standard casino diameter is about 39 mm.

Expert Advice

The latest poker chip sets are designed to deliver the authentic feel of a casino right to your game night.

High-end poker chips feature a solid core, vibrant colors and in-laid detailing and wordmarks. Multi-colored chips are available. Transport your set in a reinforced steel or aluminum carry case. Velvet or another soft-textured lining ensures that your poker set remains in crisp condition, game after game.

When you’re planning your next poker game, keep in mind the number of chips you’ll need. A game with three to four players will likely require 200 chips, a game of five to eight players requires up to 600 chips, while games with more than eight players can require 800 chips.
