Buying Tips

The differences in men and women's golf clubs are subtle but important.

While much of the same technology is used in men and women's clubs, women's golf gear tends to be designed for a shorter length, lighter weight and more flexible feel.

The shaft of women's clubs is typically composed of graphite, which is lighter in weight than steel. Graphite shafts produce a softer flex and better clubhead position. Grips on women's clubs are also smaller in diameter and shorter than those found on men's clubs.

Expert Advice

Women's drivers have a minimum 12-degree loft, compared to 8 to 11 degrees for men's drivers. That higher loft allows for easier ball launch off the tee. Ladies' irons are designed with a softer flex and heavier clubhead a combination intended to aid women's slower swing speed.

Choose your golf clubs based on your measurements, swing characteristics and experience as a golfer.

A standard golf club set for women consists for three woods, seven irons, two wedges and a putter. Many women prefer to replace lower irons with a hybrid club, which is easier to hit.
