Finding the Right Bike Frame:

Finding the right bike frame is key to enjoying the ride ahead. A bike that's too large or small for your body leads to discomfort and a difficult ride.

Bike sizes are determined by a person's body dimensions. Cyclists should know their inseam length and exact height before purchasing a new frame. Weight is not a determining factor in your bike frame size.

Height: Measure yourself against a wall while standing on a flat surface.

Inseam: Follow these steps to determine the inside length of your leg, or inseam.

  1. Stand with your back against a wall and your feet spread 6 to 8 inches apart on a flat surface.
  2. Place a book between your legs to mimic a bike seat, with its spine facing upward. Raise the book upward until it is snug against your body.
  3. Have someone measure from the top of the book's spine down to the floor. This measurement is your inseam.

Next, consult the DICK'S Sporting Goods bike frame chart below. Use your height and inseam ranges to pinpoint your ideal bike frame size.
