Rated 1 out of 5 by from Walmart bikes are probably better We bought this for our son to ride to school and around town. I'm sure he's rough on it but for the price this bike should stand up. The chain falls off a lot. This last week the pedal fell off. Totally stripped so a whole new crank arm is required. The brake cable came out once (my husband knows a little on how to fix bicycles). We've had this bike for only 6 months. So disappointed!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality bike The Outpost expert is a legit bike. No big box stuff here but an honestly good trail bike. The GT is well spec'd and shifts buttery smooth. Having ridden a Specialized 29'er for a few seasons, the 27.5 feels much better. Maybe my size has something to do with that (5'10) but it is much easier to flick the bike around the trail. The GT is well spec'd and the front lockout is a great. Tires are generally ok, depending on your riding environment but easy to switch out. The only thing I will complain about is that the seat post was too short. I am a 30" inseam and with the height maxed out, I need another inch. No biggie, just an fyi. I plan on getting a dropper post anyway. This is a great ride at even full price but I found these on clearance for $299 so I am so giddy it isn't even funny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bike!!!! Very Pleased!! This bike rides very nice, the gears shift smooth, the brakes are amazing, stop on a dime, be careful with the front, disc are no joke!!! It is relatively light frame, good balanced weight, handles like a champ, adjustable tension in the front to really tailor you ride to your own needs. Very pleased!!!! and I Love GT!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike, good price! This is a great bike. The disc brakes are durable and the trigger shifters are great. The bike tech in the store tuned it, so there are no issues with the brakes or shifting. It's better than the Diamondback Axis XE because it has suspension lockout, which helps on smooth ground where you don't want the suspension absorbing your pedaling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice bike Never had another mountain bike, but this rides nice. The disc brakes stop great with little effort. The shifting mechanisms could use some fine tuning as they sometimes take two tries to get into gear.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice ride! The bike was delivered in the time frame as promised and I was out on the trail the next day. It was pretty much assembled when it arrived with the exception of handlebars and front brake. It may be to your advantage to have a professional bike tech. adjust your breaks for you as it took me a few times to get it just right. Overall I think my purchase was an excellent value and shipping was better than expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, bad bike tech The bike was good but the bike tech did a poor job assembling and the gears were not aligned so after waiting a couple of days for the bike to be assembled, it needs to go back to get adjusted properly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My demo bike is a little beat up My average rating is based on the full price of the bike. For the sale price I paid, I would rate it 4 stars (good) because of the great features and components I got for the price. This bike was an upgrade from a 1997 Schwinn Frontier 21-speed that I enjoyed immensely. That Schwinn served me well! I didn't buy a Schwinn because I couldn't find a comparably priced Schwinn with the same feature set. I purchased my GT Outpost Expert 27.5 in July 2015 at what I think is clearance price (50% off). It was the last of its kind in store, and the next closest Dick's was completely sold out of this model. I was back at Dick's yesterday and noticed the newer/current version of this bike has accessory mounts on not only the down tube like mine, but also the seat tube. I was disappointed yesterday when I got home to find my bike does NOT have accessory attachment points on the seat tube. May have to return the frame-mounted tire pump.A few practical tips: (1) I have a Saris Bones 2 carrier on my car. This bike's frame is NOT a good fit for the rack. You can't really tell from pictures, but the top and down tubes are almost triangular, not round or oval like "traditional" bicycle frames. Luckily, I have the Saris Bike Beam adapter, but the added weight of that, plus my small car's trunk limits, keeps me from carrying two bikes using adapter bars. (2) Check your floor model VERY carefully before taking it home. I spent a lot of time riding it in store, but those conditions don't simulate the real world conditions. When I first rode the bike around my neighborhood, I glanced down and noticed that one or more of my front chain rings may be bent. The motion feels normal when pedaling, and the bike tech at the store supposedly inspected the bike. Can't tell if it's an optical illusion,or if there's really a warped ring. I did noticed however, that when the left shifter's set to 2, the right shifter in the range of positions 4-6 tends to slip out of gear to the next lowest gear. I will bring the bike back to Dick's and have it inspected. A bent chain ring should still be covered under warranty. Just hope I don't have to jump through a million hoops to resolve the problem. When installing my aftermarket kickstand, I noticed lots of nicks on the chain stays. (3) If you install a kickstand, it has to be attached to the chainstay on the left side of the bike. Do not buy a kickstand meant for round tubing; you can find one made for oval tubing for $7-$16 online. I paid $12 for mine, and it works great.
