Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Kayak - For Big Men I am new to kayaking and this is my first kayak. I am right at 300lbs (semi lean) and top heavy. I have been on kayaks before that felt no where as stable as this one. The fishing features are right on with what I needed for river and lake fishing. My 4 star rating is based on - a) handles. For something this bulky, grap handles would have been better but you can easily upgrade and add your own, b) i am in the middle of the road for the molded in footrest to short for one and to long for the next one. I plan on keeping this kayak for a long time either way. The molded seat is comfortable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This yak is a Barge! You may fall off the Perception Striker 115 when the stand-up strap tempts you to stand out in the surf, but you won't tip this thing; it's a barge! I purchased the Striker as a second family yak for fishing inshore saltwater mangroves and flats on the east Gulf and freshwater rivers, lakes and reservoirs. I also have an Eagle Talon 120 fishing kayak that I purchased at DicksSport. I could have purchased another of those, but was attracted by the kewl design of the Striker and the overall size. Not just the 33" width, the Striker sits quite high at 17" and that's measured at the navigation seat. I purchased another paddle, one size longer to compensate for that additional height (+4 inches and it was pretty much right on). Design features were the elevated fishing platform/seat, that affords about 270 degree swivel when angling, four molded transport rod holders, and an enormous cockpit and aft well. Unfortunately, after buying it I found the four rod holders to be a ridiculous 5" deep. There was plenty of room in the hull to design the Striker's rod holders of a more practical 8-9 inches deep (the rod holders on my Eagle Talon are 8.5" deep). Then there's the issue with the tiny forward day-gear and dry-storage openings. The forward day-gear opening only is 7.75" dia and the dry-storage is 4.75" dia. Forget trying to put camping gear in the front day-storage well; forget putting a large hand through the dry well opening to reach for something. Again, that's a ridiculous design flaw when there was plenty of deck space to design larger openings into the storage wells. By comparison, the openings to the day-storage and dry-well on my Eagle Talon are 19"x12" oval and 8" dia, respective. Oh, and there is no cat bag or mesh bag in the Stiker's dry storage. On the upswing, the Striker has one of the smoothest full-length anchor trolleys I've ever used and it comes with a decent sized 3.5lb grapnel anchor. The Scotty Rod holder is a nice touch, although it's located over 4 feet from the front of the navigation seat; plenty of relocation opportunities though. Speed and tracking are decent. The striker isn't as fast and doesn't track as well as the Eagle Talon, but not so much that it would have affected my buying decision in any way. To me, it's first and foremost a fishing platform and it's stability is better than any fishing yak I've owned (or in this price range anyway). If it takes me a few more minutes to get to my fishing spots, that's fine. Overall, there seem to be some weird design issues, but they don't defeat the overall value and usefulness of this fishing kayak. I would recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great kayak I did a lot of shopping around and as a newbie to the kayaking world this was a great choice. The price was good and when I sat in it at the store I was sold.It is very stable, soaks up the intercoastal chop real well without feeling tippy. It is comfortable and easy to climb in and out of which is nice for an older rookie. It has tons of storage and tie down options. I'm a big guy, almost 300lbs and this thing doesn't even flinch when I'm on it. It's rated at 500lbs and I have not doubt it could handle that and more. The only downside is that i can find is that it's kinda heavy, 65lbs, so it can be tough to handle by yourself but it is not impossible. And as other reviewers have said the tracking is a bit wayward at times. But it's nothing a little effort can't correct and hey, this is a sport.Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. If A comfortable ride and super stable platform with high carrying capacity are your main bullet points, you can't go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Kayak I have been searching and reviewing kayaks for the last few months. This one did not really pop on my radar till a few days ago when I thought my mind was set on a different one. MAN AM I GLAD I KEPT LOOKING. Not only did this meet the weight capacity I was looking for and size it beat the price point. I picked mine up yesterday and have had it out on the water a total of about 6 hours 3 hours the afternoon I purchased and again today for another 3 trying both lake and small creek waters. I am a big guy about 6.1 300 pounds this kayak will hold me plus a ton of gear. I was quite pleased with the stability of it and the way it cut through the water. It rides high on water without being tippy. And I was nervous about in flow through the scupper holes no need to worry the only water I have gotten in boat is from feet getting out or dripping from my paddles. All in all this kayak is begging to hit the water. Add a padded aftermarket seat though because the only chief complaint I have is the molded seat has no padding. Other than that cannot complain at all. Add paddle and a pfd and your ready for endless enjoyment either fishing or just paddling around in the beauty that is the outdoors

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome kayak, especially for the price I've been a fisherman all my life and up until now have been using a canoe, usually with a buddy. This is my first kayak and for the most part I am extremely impressed and satisfied with my purchase. On the pro-side, she's an extremely stable kayak. I haven't tried standing up yet, but have had her tipped to the point where water was coming over the gunwale, and didn't even remotely feel like I was going over. The plastic that the hull is made of seems pretty tough, and from what I read is easily welded and repaired in the case of a puncture. She seems like a pretty tenacious vessel. The cockpit is very spacious -- I am a big guy (6'9'' tall), and my legs are comfy with my feet on the far forward footrests. I don't feel scrunched up at all. Being so tall, the upper seat isn't something I use too often, but when I do sit in it I have even more leg room - my feet reach the third or fourth molded footrest from the far forward one in this position. Along with being a big guy, I weigh 350 and have about 30 pounds of tackle when I'm fully loaded down (I usually travel lighter, but wanted to see how she'd handle a full complement), and she doesn't even seem to notice I'm there. Minimal water comes through the scupper holes, and even then they tend to just skim the scum and gunk off the top of the water, so for that reason I will be getting plugs...but water through the scuppers is to be expected regardless. There is a generous aft cargo well with bungee cords, as well as generous forward deck space with bungee cords -- I haven't had a problem with space for tackle and gear and I have a lot of it. I use the forward 8'' deck hatch to store an emergency paddle for now, but will probably be fitting it with a dry bag at some point. The aft cargo well even has a notch molded in that perfectly fits a standard 5 gallon bucket (think the orange ones from Home Depot), useful as a pseudo-livewell or a pretty effective bait well. The included starboard Scotty mount is an extremely nice touch, I love having a quick-draw option within arm's length for a rod, and there is even another mounting point molded into the gunwale directly across on the port side for another Scotty mount or other accessory. The body of the kayak allows many other flat points to mount various accessories as well -- I've already added a pair of starboard paddle clips. The included anchor and trolley are also great additions to the outfit, all you need is a paddle and a PFD and you're ready to fish!On the con side, the center hatch is pretty inaccessible when I'm in the lower seat. The rod holders seem a little flimsy for my freshwater gear -- the large diameter of the holes lets my rods kind of flop around and I worry they'll fall out (for now, I've zip-tied some foam pipe insulation to them as flotation in case this happens). She doesn't track very well -- when I stop paddling, I veer off to the left or right, I guess depending on her mood. With active paddling this isn't as much of an issue, as my form is getting better the more I go out. The seats could do with some padding, as well -- the hard plastic gets to your butt after a few hours on the water, and my back begins hurting after a few hours with the lack of a back rest for either seat. Either of these, though, are easily fixed with aftermarket accessories. The four-star rating is for these pretty minor design flaws from the factory, but overall I am very happy with this kayak. This purchase won't disappoint you if you're an angler, or even if you aren't, the Striker 115 (non-angler version without the Scotty mount, anchor, or trolley) would be an awesome camping vessel with it's generous cargo space and weight capacity. I'm looking forward to a great summer and fall on the water with this boat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All Around Good Fishing Kayak For The Price This is my first kayak and overall couldn't be happier. I searched for some time when before deciding on this particular kayak. Now with everything else there are some pros and cons to this yak. First the pros, this has an incredibly stable platform and they advertise that you can stand up. Now I haven't tried it yet, but have been crouched while pushing off shore before sitting and there was minimal tipping. I have been out in pretty choppy water and it handled the waves fine. The storage area is decent, just need to do some minor mods to open the front hatch when it warms up. The dual seating is also a plus, the only advise I could give is invest in a seat if a longer trip is planned. This can be a matter of opinion but the molded in foot rests are a plus to me. They may add some weight but I don't have to adjust anything if I want to stretch or bend my legs. Now the cons, first and foremost the tracking on this is subpar at best. Even in calm water this can track in the opposite way you want it, but who knows, maybe it's just me. The molded in rod holders are not deep enough for any rod I own anyway, so I used 1 1/4" PVC and wrapped velcro around the bottom and they made for some great rod holders. Lastly, as it has already been mentioned is the lack of padding on the seats. All in all this a great angler kayak from the beginner to expert, especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Stable Fishing Platform This is my first kayak, so I didn't know what to expect. It is a very stable craft to cast from and being a flyfisherman, this is very important. The craft is, I believe, first and foremost a fishing platform. It is wider and bulkier by most other kayaks I've seen. It doesn't turn on a dime and likely won't win many races, but it doesn't have to. I was a little concerned about 10 scupper holes in the bottom of the craft, but it rides so high in the water that I've never gotten wet from water coming in through the holes. Plenty of carrying capacity for gear and a trolling motor if that is your bent. I need to purchase a short, one-handed paddle for use in repositioning the craft.
