Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Rod and Reel combo I purchased this fishing pole as a birthday present for my son. On our last fishing trip he learned how to use my spinning rod, which coincidently is the exact same set up. Now he has his own and is ready to go back to the lake. The rod and reel both work well for bass down to crappie. I had the pole together for so long I forgot it was a two-piece pole. The rod allows for plenty of action. We respooled the reel with 20lb braided line, no worries about snapping the line if he gets it hung up. The hook will straighten before the line breaks. Great rod and reel combo. Love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bass Pole for My Grandson I bought this pole for my grandson who had his bass pole stolen while on vacation. It is now his lucky pole and I'm very pleased with my online purchase. It is exactly what was advertised and was delivered in the timeframe promised(which was very quick).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent for beginners This combo accomplishes exactly what it says it will, It gives you the basics for bass fishing. The reel isn't bad compared to other much lesser quality cheap ones. Just be sure and tighten all of the screws and clean it after use. The rod is okay. I've caught about a dozen 1-4 lbs large-mouth on it so far and haven't had an issue. It isn't very tough so setting the hook is a tad difficult. I'll soon be upgrading to a better combo, possibly a bait-caster. Overall, this is a good starter kit, just be sure to do a lot of youtubing to learn the basics before you go out and throw a worm and reel it in full speed!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It was great for a weeks worth. I bought 2 of these and used them to extreme for 2 weeks worth of fishing before I relocated. The first 1 had the tip broke off after week 1. User error in packing and after a tip repair and new eye was fine at 3" shorter length. After the move I noticed tip 2 broke as well. I respooled with heavier line with full intention to repair only to notice that the back reel latch was not working. Upon checking the other for fit and function, it to was not working. Me being a mechanical genius, so I thought, I disassembled the first and found nothing out of the ordinary. The disassembly was conducted in a controlled environment on a black covered surface, my bed sheets, and nothing was found to suggest anything fell out as well as was carefully monitored for small parts flying. The only thing I know for sure is, weak rod tip coupled with failing reel equals not lasting the 20 + years you once could get out of any combo purchased that long ago. Would I recommend or purchase again? I was a die hard Shakespeare fan up til now. NO..... Will I purchase other products from said? I'm still a fan so I guess I will pony up and spend a few more dollars and hope I just got a bad batch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome combo I bought this combo about a year ago. I have had great luck with the tackle it came with. I changed the line it came with. I couldnt be happier with it. I snapped it trying to save my favorite spinner bait and was heartbroken. I don't think there is anything out there that compare to the quality for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value, "OK" Quality This was my first freshwater rod/reel combo and after some research I felt that it would be a decent all-around setup for a beginner angler fishing for bass. I have been using it every day for about two weeks now.The first setup lasted me about two days before the reel broke off of the rod. Dick's was nice enough to exchange for another combo. The second one lasted me a week and a half before the handle fell off of the reel and into the water in three pieces. The reel also seemed very "gritty" at times and did not reel or cast very smoothly. I did not like the reel very much, unfortunately. The rod itself seems to be of a pretty good quality. Due to it's size, it isn't very sensitive, but it is easy to set the hook and reel in the big guys. The pre-spooled line worked well but seemed to tangle and knot very easily. This could have been user-error, however, so I can't necessarily blame the line,Finally, the included lures and baits worked well. I got plenty of use of the crankbait and the worms, but I would recommend some Senko worms instead. The hooks and other items were handy, but I ended up purchasing better lures and soft plastic baits shortly after purchasing. For a complete beginner who doesn't know much about fishing or just wants a rod to use occasionally, this is a great combo and you absolutely get your moneys worth. I pulled in plenty of 2-4lb smallmouth and largemouth with this combo. For someone who thinks they might become more serious about the sport, I'd recommend doing a little more research and buying something a little bit nicer. Good luck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought Two! I had the "Striper" model before this. Bought one as a second rod. Went back and purchased another as a backup... Highly recommend for the beginner fisherman in the $30-40 range... Add 20lbs threaded and your good for the season...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Steal! This is a great deal and combo! Bought it for my girlfriends brother. All together I paid about $40 ( I also bought 8 lb. line ). The little tackle box together is worth more than $20, it comes with great lures, and even some power baits! Havent put the pole to use yet but it seems sturdy, and from what ive seen im not too sure about the reel. Not going to replace it though. Anyways, if you have a young kid interested in fishing or want to get a young one into fishing, BUY THIS!PS. After looking into the box, I found out that the hooks were a fair size. So depending on the area, I would suggest to get some small sized hooks.
