Rated 1 out of 5 by from Peice of junk The reel has been sent in for service once. Took four weeks, and then I got it back. Nothing had changed, and I even greased it. Backlashes often and the paint chips too easy. Makes a horrible grinding noise on the cast. The reel does not engage a lot. The plastic that holds the casting button on started peeling. The bearings need to be greased all of the time. It just annoys me that I paid $120 for this reel, and that is not cheap. Go ahead and buy another brand, or another reel, but certainly do not buy the Shimano Cardiff. Worst than sub $100 reels. Thanks a lot shimano for this awful product. The only plus is that it has a somewhat smooth retrieve. Still not worth it. I would not recommend. :( Spool also makes a scratching noise. I had high hopes for this reel. Not anymore, all thanks to shimano.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great reel worth the money I used this reel for 5 consecutive days of Clearlake bass fishing. It handled the big fish with ease and was capable of throwing a A-Rig day in and day out over that 5 day period. On my final day of fishing I switched to a single swim bait and this reel can throw a bait a country mile.If you have never tried a round reel this is a great price to try it and see if you like it, and after you realize how good it is you still have enough money to buy a second one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good spotty, calico, and halibut reel I've used this reel in both fresh water and salt water, it's really great when used for the right purpose. I have the 300, I use it when I go calico fishing off Catalina and some of the other channel islands. I've brought in some big bay bass from alimitos bay on this reel and some legal halibut. In fresh water I love it as a largemouth reel. It's pretty much optimal all those purposes. But I was reading some of the reviews that said it's good for yellowtail and white seabass, that seems a little nuts to me. I mean if your gonna go that route I reccomend something with a power handle, like a curado ej, Also I recommend that if you do invest in this reel you should throw some braid on it right away and avoid putting too much on for optimal casting. Lastly dont get this reel unless you are experienced with bait caster because if you don't know what your doing you'll have birdnests like you won't believe, and the way it is set up they are hard to get to and fix, if your fishing early in the morning or at night. So bottomline it's a great reel for calicos, spotties, sandbass, largemouth, and halibut under 30 inches.Good luck and I hope you catch plenty of fish. If you've got an instagram you can see some of the fish I've caught with it @thedestinator is my name, like 70% of the fish on my account where caught with this reel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great line capacity for shore casting for Salmon Although the specs allow for 165 yards of 20 pound line I recommend about 145 yards and the reel cast great with no backlash when adjusted correctly. I'm able to cast about 20 yards further than with my spinning reel and the drag is much easier to adjust while fighting a Salmon that the spinning reel drag. Shimano has designed this reel for easy rinsing of saltwater and maintenance. This reel is also lighter than a similar spinning reel that can hold 20 pound line, which has reduce fatique when required to do a lot of casting. Ordering was easy and free shipping arrive in a resonable timeframe. Very satisfied with this reel so far!
