Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice rod! Reel broke almost immediately. This is a good starter rod for a kid - short enough to be managable, long enough to make a "real" cast. The reel is another matter. Awkward drag set-up (most spincasters have a dial on top of the rod, this has a thumb-adjustable spoke by the reel handle that goes from "no drag" to "no capture" instinaneously, neither of which is useful). I could have lived with that given the purchase price, but after 2 days of light use, the reel just stopped working entirely. I like the rod enough that I'm going to keep that, get a a new reel, and use the broken reel as a "take apart and learn how it works" tool with my kid.
