Rated 4 out of 5 by Maintainance your Kayak I bought this Kayak in blue camo for my birthday this week (thank you wife) I took it out in the Florida gulf today for its maiden voyage. We paddled some choppy seas, strong currents and we were in some moderate power boat traffic. My overall impression is favorable and it was an enjoyable, fun ride. Stability is good, I stood up in mine in my pool and I'm a big guy (6'3 240lbs) it was easy but I don't trust myself to try that in the Gulf. I splurged on a nice feel free kingfisher seat and used scupper plugs under the seat as many suggested. I still got a little wet but it wasn't bad or uncomfortable. We were out from 8 am until 4:00 pm. No sore butt.Overall this kayak is great but you HAVE to go over this yak with a screw driver and tighten every single screw. The Scotty rod holder popped off at the end of my trip today. Thank goodness I was going to install a flush mount already or I would've been upset. Once it popped off I noticed how it was installed. no silicone, no gaskets , nothing. So assume nothing is sealed. Also, the screws to the side handles could be spun with my bare hands and every screw on the entire kayak needed tightening except the stainless pad eyes. I'm taking it out again tomorrow and I installed the flush mount tonight (looks sweet) and a pad eye under the water bottle holder so I can hook fish grips and pliers close by. The front hatch needs a bead of Vaseline inside the rubber rim as someone suggested it makes it very easy to take off and put on. The drain plug has no O ring so I bought one at Lowes that fits. now I feel it's ready and reliable. No big issues but you cannot trust the factory in Thailand to install the parts beyond the minimum requirements. I had to tow my Dad out of some pretty gnarly currents today and the kayak was definitely up to the job. This kayak is not slow and turns fine. It tracks straight and has decent glide. For the money it is more than a bargain I would recommend it for anyone wanting a sit on top. The only thing that would improve this would be a complementary subscription to Field and Stream upon purchase :-) . September 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great features I have a new hobby-Kayaking. I have taken it out once and it worked great. September 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by The real review. I finally broke down an bought a kayak, i have read alot of reviews, watched a ton of videos on kayaks. The price on this product is what wheeled me in. My review on this product is its a great entry level kayak but will keep you coming back for more. As im sure you are already aware of the seat issue. To be honest its not that bad, however your butt will get wet and i knew that going into it. It does lack some back support but to be honest im not looking to be in the water from dusk till dawn. I had it out yesterday for the first time and i was very impressed with the tracking and speed. All the other comments are a little harsh i was afraid to buy this product. If you are used to a hobie or a jackson i can see why you would bash this kayak but after i have been on it i really like it and i am planning another trip out fishing. its a great entry level to the sport with a great look and feel. The only real complaint i had was nothing about the kayak but the size being 12 foot it was extremely hard to put on top of my SUV. It can be done by one person but its much better with 2 August 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exactly what I needed After doing research and talking to friends, I couldn't see spending more bucks on other yaks that didn't have as many features. This is my first yak. Its pretty much what I need for fishing. When I brought it home, I put it in the pool to check for leaks, then repeatedly dumped it in deep water to practice re-entry. The inside was dry after sitting in it for some time before I flipped it. After flipping it a half dozen times, I had a tiny bit of water inside but not sure where it got in, but it wasn't enough to worry about. I have since been out on the water for three full day trips and have not had ANY water inside. Some people have complained about the forward hatch cover, but after reading the directions and putting a bead of petroleum jelly around the inside edge of the cover, I found that I was able to open it while on the water with no problem. Just don't use too much jelly, you don't want to get that stuff on whatever you put inside. After the preceding trips, I found that my butt was getting wet even with plugs in the holes under the seat. I have since put in a piece of Styrofoam under the seat to raise it about 2 inches and provide better cushion - yet to be tried out. The complaint about the seat being soft on support is still an open issue - not sure if it needs an upgrade or not. More trips are required. I do know that you have to play with the straps to get it where you need it, not a big deal but maybe some people don't take the time. I added a few tie-downs to hold some leaches and bungee cords and its pretty much all I need for a great day of fishing. July 29, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice Kayak For the price This is my 6th kayak. I wanted a SOT that was set up for fishing. I purchased this one after doing some research and because it was in my price range. I have had this out on Lake Erie, The bay, and French Creek. It handled well after I learned its balance. It tracks good in my opinion and for a 12' kayak its fair to control when needing to steer or navigate around obstructions. I have not tried to stand in it yet but I have tipped it to see the difficulty of getting back in. I put a different type of anchor trolly system on it and also had to seal the rod holders with silicone because they were not water proofed and allowed water to enter the haul. Also the storage bag hatch is not sealed either. The seat is ok but I'm going to replace it with one that has a higher back support for long trips. Over all I like this kayak. It may not be for everyone who is looking for a SitOnTop but for me it works. I had to change some things but everyone eventually does that when they get more into the fishing aspect. July 27, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bad seat I have two problems, seat does not have good back support. Tried to adjust straps all kind of ways with no avail. Adjustable foot pegs have lost their clips to hold it in position. If I can get a better seat with higher back support, it will make me a happy camper. On a positive note, it will handle up to 400 lbs. July 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Kayak I have been enjoy this Kayak every weekend since getting it. Great Kayak for the price ! July 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great all around kayak! I have owned this yak for a few months now and wanted to share my experience.I have been out on a pond lake and river now with it. Let's not forget the pool where I spent some time testing it's capability as far as flipping it standing in it and recovering from the water. This boat has good storage. I am able to put my paddle and fishing poles inside the kayak! The rod holder is a little far so I haven't used it. I mounted a new one in the cup holder furthest away. This boat retails for 550 and I got it on sale for 450 and was missing a few pieces and got it % 15 off that. The seat imo is bad so I replaced it with a stadium seat for more comfort. The boat handles real well. And is easy to stand in. I have added a milk crate and extra rod holders for extra gear I bring. It does well in the rapids, easy to clean just hose it down. The boat is a little heavy so a cart may be necessary for most people. July 12, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great overall Seat is terrible. The stock seat will murder your back. Everything else is great. July 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great value boat! Love my yak! As a lot of you I combed through a lot of online reviews and searched the net high and low. I think I got one of the better values out there for my money. This boat has everything I need for fishing or ever going down the river for a nice paddle. I have taken it in the ocean as well and it tracks straight and true. Super stable have not stood up in it yet but have sat side saddle in it(with both legs over the one side). Tons of dry storage underneath. Handles better then expected in white water as well. The only con about this boat is it is a little heavy to move and car top, but hey its a 12 foot yak. and your but gets wet on rough water if you do not plug the scupper holes un the seat. Also the seat could be upgraded if you are going to spend 4 plus hours in it. A great swiss army knife of a Kayak. July 3, 2014
