Yakima Buckhorn Elite 4-Bike Hitch Vehicle Rack 3.8 5 56 56
Junk I put the bike rack together as the instructions directed and installed on my motorhome. The 2 inch receiver hitch adapter is loose. Tried to tighten the bolt that holds the bike rack to the hitch receiver. After several up and down movements such as road bumps the the bolt had backed out. Now there is 2 - 3 inches of horizontal play and 3 - 4 inches of vertical play.I tightened to bolt as tight as possible and went another block and the bolt had started to back out again. The bolt is smaller that the hitch pin hole, thus there is wobble caused by this, which causes the bolt to back out. This is just a poor design. December 14, 2014
Sturdy Rack I had seen mixed reviews on this rack but have found it to be very sturdy and reliable for a cross country trip. The most challenging part is assembly. DICK'S sells this rack without informing the customer that a tube top is required for a women's bike..... very frustrating. However, I am happy to say that this rack was secure throughout our 2000 mile round trip. Using tools to secure the rubber tabs and tighten the bolt ensures a faster and more sure fit. I was very leery of a rack wobbling and this was very solid. I now can install it myself without assistance and can take my bike anywhere. May 19, 2014
It started failing....but at least Dicks gave me my money back. We took one 250 mile trip. By the time we got there, the pin that allows you to pull out and swivel the rack down, had actually bent so much that it couldn't be pulled out! All I have to say is thank GOD the pin didn't actually break while we were driving 70mph or our bikes would have been destroyed! And do you think Yakima or Dicks would pick up the tab to replace about $600 in bikes? Before taking this rack back to Dicks, I read through the manual to see if I somehow overloaded the rack which I was sure there was no way. It is a 4-bike rack and I was only carrying my wife's and my Trek bikes, plus two small bikes for a 9 yr old and a 6 yr old. I weighed all the bikes and I was comfortably under the max load limit. So, just beware. March 8, 2014
Good quality bike rack It wasn't the easiest bike rack to put together (directions were a bit confusing), but once it was done, I realized that i had make a good purchase. Easy access into the hatch of the car with bike rack on. Also, pretty easy to install bikes. The bikes looked very secure on my 14 hour car ride. February 27, 2014
Yakima Buckhorn Elite 4-Bike Hitch Vehicle Rack This is a real nice bike rack. Not only does it support the bikes but keeps them in place while driving. February 13, 2014
Yakima Buckhorn Elite 4-Bike Hitch Vehicle Rack This product is very well made, solid construction, easy to put together, and the price is within reason. I installed this rack and kept it in our garage prior to our trip and left it mounted on our minivan. I ended up taking the rack back prior to taking it on the road because of the horizontal arm sticking out so far. I found many racks where the arm can be lowered out of the way. I see Yakima has racks with this feature as well as Thule which are the two I will be choosing from in the near future. This would be a very good rack if you have a larger garage where you could have it extended all the time. I returned this product and was very impressed with Dicks return policy, the friendly service and competitive price. January 14, 2014
Short distance The main part of the unit is very well built and stable. However the section that slides into the hitch is not very stable, not a very good snug fit. Due to the poor fitting, the bolt that is supplied to secure the hitch will loosen up after less than a hour drive, no matter how tight to bolt it up. Any more torgue most likely will strip the bolt. You can use a hitch pin, put the poor fit into the hitch will sooner or later twist or snap. I should have listened to the sport shop and paid more. Time to return has past. December 17, 2013
Yakima four bicycle rear car hitch rack Fits four bicycles - barely. Four bicycles may withstand scratching among them. Need strength to close/open the rubber straps around the bicycles. Easy to assemble and disassemble; however, need tools to remove the upper "U-shape" horizontal rack part from the vertical stand. Also need tools to remove the vertical stand from the car hitch. Would be much better a design where only a pin with a key or something to such effect were necessary to remove these pieces. The U-Shape portion does not fold down when bicycles are not carried, to reduce the overall length of the car, therefore, removing it maybe more frequent than expected. A reflective orange/red stripe or paint would be nice on the vertical stand to alert other vehicles of the protruding piece on the back of the car. November 19, 2013
Great bike rack. More info on the stablecradles would be helpful. It is heavier than we expected. October 22, 2013
Not happy with rack BUT service at Dicks service was great Unable to pull the straps off to get bike on or off. Very dangerous when on the back of car with no bikes on. Arms do not go down . Went to get groceries at night and in a low lit parking lot. A person walking by walked into the arms. Almost poked an eye out. Pro. Very stable when driving when bikes are on. Should never sell the ones that arms don't go down. Returned it. Dick's and their employee deserve an A plus. We bought 2 bikes and the salesman was great. Love our bikes. Returning the car rack was easy and everyone was great..thank you. Will go to Dicks again.. October 15, 2013
