Rated 3 out of 5áby Excellent Customer service This bike rack seems to work quite well. The directions are more than a little bit opaque and my initial installation was backwards. I do have reasonable mechanical ability and have maintained bicycles for over fifty years. This was promptly corrected by the extremely helpful and competent employee who pointed out the correct installation. I was extremely disappointed to find that the rack is not recommended for installation on one of my cars only after I had opened the package. April 30, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5áby Not suitable for kids biles Bought this after reading product details and reviews that said it was great for alternate size bikes. I have a ladies bile, a kids 24" and 20" bikes. The first problem was I had to buy three Toptubes because the bikes bars are slanted unlike a mens bike. These toptubes cost $40 each. Then I began the installation which was not easy and I am very handy. With the reach installed I tried the ladies bike, it went on to the rack fairly easily but the rubber locking straps are very difficult to put on, my wife did not have the strength to do it so now I had to be there anytime the kids want to ride bikes.... Big problem!Next I tried the 24" and it would not fit, the bars on the rack are too wide for smaller bikes. All in all a bad experience and not recommended. I should have started by visiting my local bike shop. June 21, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5áby Not for 3 Bikes This rack will not support 3 bikes. The straps are good the tubes are Ok but the spring loaded mechanism that is supposed to lock the tubes in place will not support the weight of the third bike. Also I ride with a bike club and when my partner loads his bike on the rack he will pull down so hard trying to engage the rubber straps in the holder that he pulls the tie down strap clip from under the trunk lid. With three bikes the spring locking connector freezes and the mechanism distorts so that the tubes sag down. July 2, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby A sturdy bike rack for many vehicle applications The Yakima MegaJoe Elite bike rack has proven to be a sturdy, well-made rack offered at a reasonable price. Purchased this item to tote two of my bikes to Hilton Head Island and had zero drama with it. I question the blogs on this item which stated the rack was difficult to set up, but I had no issues. As the rack can fit many vehicles, it has adjustable angle devices which must be measured and locked in place for each application. This is very critical for both on-road safety and bike protection, so do not deviate from your vehicle's measurement. This is the only issue I have with these type of carriers, as every time you want to flatten the carrier to store, you will need to re-measure and lock the unit back in its open position to use it. The best thing about this carrier is the three-bike adjustable holders that use three rubberized straps to lock each bike securely in place - which keeps them from sliding into each other. As I have a good amount of money invested in several beautiful bikes, I appreciate this system - when carefully loaded, the bikes stay away from each other, so painted and polished surfaces do not not get scratched. Rated 5 out of 5áby Great Trunk Rack Great rack, took it on a 700+ mile trip through rain, wind and other horrible weather and it held like a champ. All I had to do is check the straps every two/three hours when it was 100+ degrees, and tighten them slightly at stops. Great product, and I've owned half a dozen of these racks. July 16, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5áby Six arms need to assemble Directions are not clear on how to mount this product. It took 1.5 hours to finally get it onto my car. There was still quite a bit of wobble and is definitely NOT secure. Also, anyone walking by could easily slip the hooks off the trunk and walk off with the rack. THEN I had trouble pulling the rubber bike mounts around my bike frame and an even more difficult time getting the bike off. I almost got a blade to cut through the rubber. NOT HAPPY. Rated 3 out of 5áby Good, but....one major flaw I purchased this for use on an SUV. I read the directions and reviewed prior to installation. The first go-round with installation took me about an hour total with tweaking and modifiying. Only after I loaded the second bike did I see in the directions that when the rack is mounted using the glass hook installation, that only 2 bikes can be hauled. It doesn't say this on the box, so if you buy this without reading the directions online first (available at yakima), you will be disappointed to not be able to haul 3 bikes. It will work fine for 2 bikes using the SUV glass hooks, but 3 bikes is too much weight. Very disappointed to have to return it it and do more research to see if any of the 3 bike systems will work. Rated 4 out of 5áby Not bad for the price! I needed a quick way to transport my bikes on vacation. I was expecting this rack to be a lot cheaper, in regards to it's construction, for the price I paid for it. I had only planned to use it once or twice. I was pleased to find out it was actually very sturdy when set up. It held all three of our family's bikes, was easily set-up and taken apart. One plus, I was able to open my rear hatch (Jeep Grand Cherokee) with the rack and bikes attached! June 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5áby Great product, low price I transported three "cruiser" bikes over 2500 miles strapped to the back of my 4Runner, with no issues whatsoever: two Schwinns and an Electra. Solid construction, positive locking cams to adjust to the shape of any vehicle, lateral straps to prevent sway. Great product, highly recommended. July 16, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5áby Not 3 bike carrier Returned as no way I could mount 3 bikes to this carrier. Also, the weight of 3 bikes caused the carrier to slide and then dent my trunk. October 18, 2012
