Rated 3.8 out of 5áby 40 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5áby Not for 3 Bikes This rack will not support 3 bikes. The straps are good the tubes are Ok but the spring loaded mechanism that is supposed to lock the tubes in place will not support the weight of the third bike. Also I ride with a bike club and when my partner loads his bike on the rack he will pull down so hard trying to engage the rubber straps in the holder that he pulls the tie down strap clip from under the trunk lid. With three bikes the spring locking connector freezes and the mechanism distorts so that the tubes sag down. July 2, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5áby Excellent Customer service This bike rack seems to work quite well. The directions are more than a little bit opaque and my initial installation was backwards. I do have reasonable mechanical ability and have maintained bicycles for over fifty years. This was promptly corrected by the extremely helpful and competent employee who pointed out the correct installation. I was extremely disappointed to find that the rack is not recommended for installation on one of my cars only after I had opened the package. April 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Strong construction; excellent support for bike I would have prefered to have a hitch rack, but my car doesn't have a hitch. This was an excellent alternative. The construction is high quality. The pads/seats that hold the bike are a high quality rubber and are designed in a way that held the bike fast. They seem to be the same quality as some of the hitch racks I was looking at. The ties connected to the seats are the right kind of rubber to stick to the bike and keep it in place. There were ample straps so that the frame was adequatly supported. While the rack cost more that other strap supported racks, the hefty construction was worth it and certaily cost less than buying a new bike if the rack failed! April 23, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5áby Very sturdy and easy to mount. The instructions are confusing. The mounting and assembly were done through logic and common sense. Spent more time reading the mounting an strapping instructions. Was only able to mount one bike only, and it was able to hold the bike tight and secure to the rear of the vehicle. The diagram on the instructions that shows the bike rack mounted and strapped to the rear of the vechicle needs to be cleary visible. April 22, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby Not as good as the previous version! The rubber straps that you lock the bike down with are too taught. The red color is obnoxious. I've used the black version of this bike rack for five years until one of the support straps broke. I bought this rack to replace the support strap on my former version. I would have given the former version of this bike rack five stars - it was black and the rubber straps were just perfect! April 16, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby Good Value Fairly easy to install. Looks and feels well built. Only drawback is the rubber straps kinda hard to lock would be easier with ratchet style straps. April 2, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby Nice bike rack Functional, takes a while to set-up. Handles 3 bicycles. Would buy again. March 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby heavy duty Yakima products are top drawer this rack can hold 3 bikes and its well built and sturdy and I would recommend this product for trunk style installs March 25, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5áby Good product, poor info re: auto model compatibility The bike rack was great - arrived as promised. Product description said it would fit Toyota Camrys. Not until I received the product was there any mention that it would only fit Camrys through model year 2011. (Mine is a 2012.) VERY frustrating. I recommend the product with the caveat that it is not compatible with any cars with spoilers (large, small or in between.) October 13, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5áby A sturdy bike rack for many vehicle applications The Yakima MegaJoe Elite bike rack has proven to be a sturdy, well-made rack offered at a reasonable price. Purchased this item to tote two of my bikes to Hilton Head Island and had zero drama with it. I question the blogs on this item which stated the rack was difficult to set up, but I had no issues. As the rack can fit many vehicles, it has adjustable angle devices which must be measured and locked in place for each application. This is very critical for both on-road safety and bike protection, so do not deviate from your vehicle's measurement. This is the only issue I have with these type of carriers, as every time you want to flatten the carrier to store, you will need to re-measure and lock the unit back in its open position to use it. The best thing about this carrier is the three-bike adjustable holders that use three rubberized straps to lock each bike securely in place - which keeps them from sliding into each other. As I have a good amount of money invested in several beautiful bikes, I appreciate this system - when carefully loaded, the bikes stay away from each other, so painted and polished surfaces do not not get scratched.
