Rated 4 out of 5 by JD Great fun and good practice for the hitting enthusiast
First, the SKLZ LB Pitching machine works as a reliable and realistic pitching machine to a distance between 30-32 feet. I wish something like this was available when I played 25 years ago. I've had great fun using this machine placing it on my stable wooden deck plugged into an outside outlet while I hit the balls into the back of the house from the backyard (outside). My only request for improvement for the machine is the "about" 5-second frequency between pitches ... it would be beneficial to have some kind of rotating indicator that can be seen as the gravity arms circle out of the way and release a ball into the machine. The timing is about 5-seconds in-between each pitch, but the practice value is limited to improving pitch selection discipline and lower body techniques without a more reliable timing indicator than "5-seconds" ... it could be improved to a more realistic "1-second" notification of an incoming pitch with a simple small color pitch indicator.
With consideration to the previously mentioned remarks, if you are looking for keeping someone who likes hitting baseballs/softballs challenged and entertained this is a great toy that could be used inside in a large space, but I would expect most people would not have access to the inside space at home to set this up and use it with a full-swing.
I have great fun with this machine. I set up my hitting position 32 feet from the machine. Past experience with machines used when I was playing high school and college baseball assisted me in determining that this machine would be most useful as a practice machine one-half the distance of the normal 65 feet between the pitcher and batter. At 32 feet, the variation of balls pitched in the strike zone is similar to a college team mate pitching live hitting practice. Do expect about 2-3 "balls" per 12 pitches and they will come in both a little high, a little low, and a little inside/outside. ... If you set it up farther than 30-32 feet, expect inaccuracy to be increased ... it isn't designed to be accurate beyond 30 feet. But, if you're just looking for an activity to have some fun and be challenged hitting a ball or practice bunting, go ahead and set it up anywhere and have a blast! :-)

We set this up in the finished basement with a catch net behind the machine. Our 12-16 year old boys use a hard plastic or mini bat with it (the red metal SKLZ bat marks up the walls & carpet!) It is harder than it looks, when you set it up 10-15 feet away, the ball comes in really fast. They and their friends have a great time with it! Buy the machine & extra balls, skip the SKLZ bats!

This product is meant to be used within 10 feet of the batter. It isn't a cheap version of a pitching machine. I bought it for 2 boys both 6 and 10. Its meant to help them with hand eye coordination. It will do that. It will not teach them how to hit a curve. If you are looking for a pitching maching be prepared to spend over $300. This is absolutely a great tool for helping your child with hand eye coordination and bat speed. If they can hit these balls on the button then they will hit a baseball. BTW, the boys thought it was fun as well. Downside is that balls can easily be lost and they are expensive.

When I use this I do admit that you have to get close to it. I play high school baseball and if I stand about 10 feet away or so it is like hitting an 80 mph fast ball because it piches about 30. People just need to relize that you can not hit off of it at normal distance. You have to adjust yourself to how fast you want it to pitch to you. You can adjust the highth by a knob on the back. This improved my hitting by a bunch.

Extremely flimsy, barely pitches the ball 15 feet. Dicks should be ashamed that they are stealing [$] for this. Even worse is what they are charging for balls.

We bought this product several weeks ago. Many problems. 1) - without batteries the base is too light to keep the thing upright. 2) pitches balls way too inconsistently - only 5 of 24 balls on average stay in the strike zone, the others fall short or fly left or right - so bad we think the unit could be defective. 3) slow as a dog -barely makes it 20 feet. For kids of age to hit the bolz balls, the speed is not effective training. Taking it back to store.
