fantastic crankbait reel I am a diehard crankbait fisherman and have even customized a series of Quantum reels to make ideal cranking reels. When this reel came out I was shocked to find every feature that I had put into my custom reels as a stock feature. First, these have a solid, high capacity spool that creates a large amount of inertia which generates much longer casts than the popular drilled spools. Second, the magnetic antibacklash control is extremely effetive for a wide variety of bait weights and further reduces casting drag maximizing distance. The magnetic anti- backlash control is also very effective for casting baits directly into the wind. Third, the larger than standard handle produces a significant mechanical advantage to the angler and greatly reduces fatigue after a long day of deep diving crankbait fishing. Fourth, for a good cranking reel, it absolutely has to have a metal frame and this one does, though a forged frame isn't as refined as a machined frame, it is still solid. Finaly, the lube port is a great addition since crankbait fishing can really put the drive and pinion gears under a lot of stress requiring more frequent re-greasing. This reel has a very smooth opperation and has one of the lowest profiles of any high line capacity reel I have used. The best Freshwater and saltwater.I have been using Lew's reels for 25 years when they were Lew Childre Reels then Browning bought them out. I have over 20 Lew Childre and Lews Browning reels. Just bought one of the new Lew's speed spool and its great. These reels only get better and last a lifetime. August 4, 2012

do yourself a favor I've never had a baitcast where I could cast into 20 mph winds and not backlash, you can also skip your plastics, and it casts a mile, these just retired all my curados June 3, 2012

top notch baitcaster I own a lot of fishing rods and reels and the new Lews line is some of the best I have ever used. I stacks up against any of my over $200 reels such as the Chronarch. If you buy one of these you will not be disappointed. These reels are the reason I sold all my Curados and bought Lews. July 17, 2011
