solid and smooth reel but a little heavy This reel is solid and has a very smooth retrieve. Great workmanship but the materials make it heavy. This should last a good long while though. Happy with my choice for now. February 26, 2013

quality reel After buying cheap combos I finally spent some money on a quality reel. This reel is awesome, extremely smooth and rugged. The bail on this reel is heavy duty, not a thin piece of wire you get with a lot of cheaper reels. I don't think you can buy a better reel for the same price. Happy Fishing! January 30, 2013
Low quality I bought a penn 4000 battle reel. The reel is a piece of junk. Had problem the 1 st time I fished with it. The gears were skipping with 15 pound striped bass on the line. Just barely got fish to boat. And lost another fish. Stay away from this reel . I sent reel into penn for repairs . Got reel back . Went fluke fishing and reel was still skipping gears January 14, 2013

Great Reel I have been useing Penn Reels for over 50 years and Next to the 704 the Battle is by far the best reel I have ever used. It stands up to salt water and big Bass and blues outstanding. I now have 4 Penn battle 5000. and a lot of the guys in my fishing club are useing them also. Nothing fishes big fish from shore like a Penn. December 4, 2012
