I recently purchased a Fierce rod & reel (4000 series) combo. After fishing with it several times, I was pleased enough with the feel and performance of the reel, I decided to purchase the 8000 series reel for offshore spin fishing. I have loaded up the 8000 with 65# braided line to enhance the reliability of my reel and ease of casting.
For awhile, Penn went through a soft period of introducing new, updated models but with the introduction of the Fierce and Battle lines, I believe they have made a resurgence in the spinning reel category.
Great value for the price!

Rated 3 out of 5áby stretch well built but lacking
I have not fished with this reel yet, bought the 5000 for fluke & striper fishing and I'm 100% sure it will perform excellently. the reel seems well machined. I was very disappointed that the "anti reverse" means there is NO FREE SPOOL option. if you want to let line out you need to open bail. overall I'm keeping the reel but it is lacking in features that are standard in other brands, at cheaper prices. #I own an okuma avenger and several shimano siennas#
I'm banking on this reel lasting and performing for a very long time.

I now own 5 Penn Fierce Reels - Three 3000s and two 5000s. I fish seven days a week and the reels have always performed extremely well both surf and river.

Rated 5 out of 5áby C Norris Great reel for the money
I bought the 3000 reel to add to my other fierce 3000 I use for surf fishing. This reel has a smooth drag cast like a dream when combined with suffix 832. I have never had a problem with this reel fight bull red drum, black drum, flounder, sea trout etc. these reels are the best bang for your buck. I use the 20 times a year

Rated 5 out of 5áby Fishing Magician Good, sturdy reel
Penn Fierce is a good, sturdy, all metal reel. I need tough equipment that can take some use and abuse while kayak fishing. This seemed to fit the bill for a decent price. I paired it up with an Ugly Stik Intercoastal rod and it seems like a good setup for my needs.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Tim Awesome Reel. Good price too.
It's a little heavier than some others, but it's strong and casts far. Smooth action, anti-reverse. Loop on seems to be minimal. Multi ball bearings. For most light fishing the 3000 will work, but the 4000 is a bit beefier and goes well on a 6-7ft pole. Plan on landing lots of drum and specks.

Rated 4 out of 5áby Snook-Daddy Good value for money
I bought this reel to use for salt water, inshore fishing in Florida. Good ergonomics, nice smooth drag system, with fine-increment adjustments. Good mid-priced reel for the regular fisherman. Also bought a Penn Battle, which is the next step up with a heavier bail, couple more bearings, and a better drag system....and may hold up better for fishing guides, avid anglers who are using it a lot, etc.

Bought this for surfcasting for striped bass. Have used it 6 or 8 times so far it works great. No problems casting and retrieving. Have 30 lb braid on it with a mono backing.
Caught quite a few fish with no problems. The drag is very smooth. Time will tell if the reel holds up to salt and sand abuse. I did buy the No Sweat protection plan just incase.
