Rated 5 out of 5 by Works great I read the reviews of several hoists and selected this based on feedback and price. It was easy to install and I had it mounted and the kayak attached in about 30 minutes. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, especially when it came to threading the rope though the pulleys. Two things that helped me, based on other user feedback and not in the instructions: 1. measure your kayak where you want the straps to go around; use this measurement to mark the distance between the pulleys on the ceiling. 2. Add an extra strap under the kayak to hold the two straps provided (making an "H" shape) from sliding. This made the kayak much more stable when lifting. May 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Reasonably priced hoist This hoist works as intended and I would have given it 5 stars except for a couple issues. 1. It is intended to attach to your joists, but there is no way to securely hang the pulleys if you need to run the hoist the opposite way without extra work. I attached an extra 2x4 and plywood to my joists so I could hang the pulleys. This could have been easily solved if there were two settings for the hangers/pulleys 2. They hoist items up and hold them securely, however they will not release the brake unless you climb up with a ladder and manually pull the brake down. I solved this by attaching a length of paracord to the brake. I purchased 2 hoists so I could store both my kayaks in my shed They work well enough other than the two issues I listed, but after some simple modifications they are just fine and are strong enough to hoist my yaks to the ceiling with ease. Rated 5 out of 5 by My 4th hoist This is my 4th of these hoists. I have 2 single sit in kayaks (40-50 lb. each), 1 tandem SOT (about 75 lb.), and a canoe (about 80 lb.). They keep the boats high enough to not have to duck. The brake holds the entire weight and the tie off is just for a backup. I have put the 2 singles stacked on top of each other in 1 hoist, but it is not very convenient, which is why I purchased a 4th. This is a great product, not difficult to hang, and easy to take the boats in and out of. May 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by CargoLoc Garage Hoist I like it better after a few adjustments. I originally put the unit up per the instructions then had to move the pulleys further apart, the ropes were pulling against the lock mechanism making it hard to lower the kayak. I had to use the hooks in the front and back handles of the kayak for two reasons: 1) the straps kept wanting to slide toward the end of the kayak and I didn't want it falling on my wife's car, and 2) I needed to get the kayak up higher because of a low ceiling in the garage. Rated 4 out of 5 by CargoLoc Garage Hoist (kayak sling hoist) Simple strong sling hoist that holds my kayak securely. With the exception of the rope provided (not high quality and will likely have to be replaced within a year or two), the strength and smooth operation of the unit provided excellent value for the price paid. If you have finished ceilings and no exposed ceiling joists, it takes some time to attach the brackets securely and in-line with each other, but once installed, a kayak can be attached to the sling and lifted easily and quickly by one person. After installing the first one, I was satisfied enough that I bought a second one for my other kayak. August 16, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Garage Hoist I found the directions on how to web the lifting cords very easy to understand and follow. Installation in exposed garage rafters made it easy for me, however, I did have to use a 2X4 mounted above the 2X8 rafters in order to make sure my kayak could be lifted high enough to allow me to safely back my SUV into my garage. I also added a couple of pulleys to the rafters to eliminate cord drag/damage on the rafters. The only disadvantage is that when I do lower my kayak, I have to push it out of the way of the lifting/lowering cord in order to release the cord lock so it can be operated properly. Also, wear gloves while doing this to eliminate rope burn on your hands. I recommend it and will be buying another one for our 2nd kayak. July 31, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Unbelievable value Are you kidding me?! The best $29.99 I?ve spent in a very long time. The hoist was easy to install, it is easy to use, and it looks & feels very sturdy & well built. How someone could build a hoist this nice & easy to use is beyond me. Due to this experience, I plan to purchase two additional hoists. They?re an excellent product and an excellent value. November 14, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good with minor issues. The kayak storage pulley system works great. It is easy to lift the kayak and it locks into place easily. On the negative side, it does not pull up snugly to the ceiling. The loops for the kayak are too long, making the kayak hang too low. The hooks for the loops are long, making it hang even lower. If I had not modified the product, it would have hung about six feet off the floor, leaving no place for my car and also making it impossible to walk around in the garage. The whole idea is to get the kayak out of the way. I had to create my own loops and hang the pulley system from the upper rafters. The engineers should design a shorter hanging system that gets the kayak right up to the ceiling. Simply adding more loops in the hanging straps would solve most of it: a matter of sewing a few more stitches. April 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just as Described. This is your basic ceiling mounted kayak hoist. I have installed two of these in my garage. One for my kayak & the other to hold two paddle boards. Everything is working just peachy so far. January 8, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Engineered pretty well Works great! Once the rope is installed correctly after the bible of confusing directions, one person is definatly able to do the job. The only bad i can give is that the quality of the rope is not good 3-5 uses and threads break more and more each time. I will have to buy a new rope soon December 4, 2014
