I bought this hoist for a kayak, it works well. Installation was as easy as expected, bolted into ceiling joists through drywall. I found the screws included in the kit to be adequate for the job, plenty long enough to get a good bite into the studs. The rope lock does make lowering the kayak a bit tricky, and I really wish it were possible to have both pullys move at the same time instead of hoist, level the load, hoist, level the load, etc. I will likely buy this hoist again when we add more kayaks or canoes to the fleet. My garage has 13 foot ceilings and there is ample rope raise and lower without having to stretch to reach it. I feel it is priced well, and have reccommended it to a friend who also has kayaks and canoes.

The brackets and pulleys and other hardware are heavy duty enough for the job. I was afraid they would be light and fragile for the price. Installation was easy and I pulled my 16 foot 58lb boat up just like that. I mounted the pulleys on a 2x4 rail 14 feet from the floor, and there was not enough rope to do that and mount the pulleys 6 feet apart for my long boat. I had to add a strap between the hooks to keep the slings from scooting off the ends. It would be nice if a strap was included to do this. I'm on the site right now to order a second unit for my little sailboat.

This Garage Hoist System worked well with my kayaks. Excellent construction and easy to operate, store and retrieve the kayaks. The brackets used to attach the pulley system to the ceiling have two holes, use two bolts, and assume the ceiling joists run length-wise parallel to the way you hang the boat. But, if your joists run perpendicular you need to drill another hole and use only one rather than two bolts. In my case, even with one bolt I am confident the pulleys are securely attached. Also, if your kayak has a very sharp keel, the sling may not work well. One of mine has scupper holes, which I could thread the sling straps through.

It works as advertised. Not too hard to install. I have 10 foot ceilings in my garage and it allows the kayaks to be up high enough that the overhead doors can still open. Good product for the price.

The hoist went up really easy. It holds my kayak up high enough so I can walk and work underneath it without worrying about banging into it. I am planning on buying another for my other kayak.

Everything worked as advertised. Good instructions, good price. Only suggestion is to allow the user to rotate the mounting brackets 90 degrees. In my case, I want to hang the kayak perpendicular to the car. My joists run parallel to the car. I had to remove one bolt from each hanger to rotate the pulley. I am assuming the one bolt will hold 30 lbs. my kayak weighs 50 lbs.
