Redington Surge Fly Reel
I bought this reel about a year ago, with the intent of pairing it with a 6-wt. fly rod I use mostly for modest size bass and bluegill--fishing situations where a high-performance drag isn't necessary and a moderately-priced reel would be more than adequate. Of course, it worked fine for that application. Surprisingly, however, this reel excels in far more demanding assignments. I found myself using that same 6-weight recently on a large western river where trout upwards of 20" on small flies and 5X tippet were the rule. These were strong, wild, fish, using the heavy current to their advantage. The Surge was more than up to the task of providing a consistent, perfectly-adjusted drag setting that yielded line at the critical moment. I've been a fan of other brands for a long time, but you can spend 2 or 3 times more money and not get any more performance than you have with the Surge. It is really a good product.

best fly reel under $100.00
I got this reel over the ross rise, and I have to say im glad I did. The reel is heavy compared your higher dollar reels, but nothing that will make you wish you spend double the money on something else. It does the job well. With a smooth drag and decent backing capacity its everything you need. And another great thing about the surge is there is a lifetime warranty threw Redington.
