Diamondback Adult Response XE Mountain Bike 2012 4.2 5 119 119
So far, so good I recently started mountain biking/trail riding and wanted to buy a decent, durable bike, but didn't want to dump a bunch of money on one if I wasn't going to ride regularly. I started off with a $150 bike from WM and learned pretty quick that it just won't do. So, after finding this one at Dick's, I was pretty stoked. I took it home, rode it around the block and was impressed from the start. After that, I couldn't wait to get it on the trails and once I did, I was completely happy with it. I haven't done any hard core riding yet, so I don't can't speak for its overall durability, but after a few weeks of owning it, I'm satisfied with my purchase. I will agree with those who have said the seat leaves something to be desired, but other than that, I have no issues and would definitely reccommend this bike. May 7, 2013
Great starter bike Solid starter bike for price got it on sale $379 shipped with 2 yr warranty. April 23, 2013
Nice features for the price This seems like a good bike for the price range. I've just taken it on one trip so far, but it handled well on some fairly rough trails in Moab, UT. The disc brakes worked well on some significant downhill slopes, and the frame felt appropriately stiff and manageable. The front suspension provides a good range of travel and works well. We'll see how it holds up over the long run, but so far it has turned out well. No complaints. April 23, 2013
Great bike! This is my first mountain bike. I have yet to take it out on the rougher terrain, but I love how it has performed on the paved sidewalks around my neighborhood! I love how easy it is to shift gears. The look of the bike is very sporty which I love. Also the color is nice! April 17, 2013
Solid, quality bike for reasonable cost I was in the market for a rugged mountain bike to do some occasional trail riding along with regular hilly bike path riding without breaking the bank. My criteria was simple: light but strong aluminum frame, solid brakes, reliable shifters, and at least front suspension. The Response XE met those requirements well under my planned budget. I've had the bike for a few weeks now and put almost 50 miles in. Aside from a few tweaks to quiet a little squeal on the disc brakes, I'm pleased. I really like the discrete click shifters, as opposed to twist shifters, since they are more precise and easier to use, particularly for rougher terrain. The disc brakes work nicely for downhill stopping power. The only thing I found strange is that I had to get a kickstand as a separate purchase plus a more comfortable seat would have been a nice bonus. April 16, 2013
Excellent bike I have thoroughly enjoyed this bike from day one. It out performs any bike I have had in the past. And the price was right too. Hats off to Dick's for hooking me up. March 31, 2013
Good entry level hardtail Nice hardtail for under $500. The frame is solid and handles jumps and roots fairly well. March 26, 2013
Awesome for the price! Excellent value and quality for the price! Strongly recommended!! March 26, 2013
Don't be fooled! Bought the bike maybe 3 months ago, now i do do some moderate riding, but for the price it is of no value. the plastic pedals turned into slicks in about 5 rides, the fork is so stiff they may as well have made it a rigid to save weight, brakes need to be calibrated after nearly every ride, chain slap is a noise you ought to get used to, and most recently the rear axle snapped in half inside the hub body causing a grueling repair process. all im saying is shop around. go to diamondbacks website see what the real responses have to offer. more than that though for 350 dollars value is not hard to find in the bike world March 10, 2013
Not too bad. I am writing this review after having owned this bike for a little over a year. Overall this is a solid built bike for the money. The frame is lightweight and the components are great value based on the overall price of the bike. However, that being said, I had to have the rear axle replaced 3 times in the first 4 months that I owned the bike. Finally after the 3rd time the axle broke Dicks replaced the entire rear wheel, cassette and axle assembly with something that is much more durable and is not stock for the bike. No problems with it since. I found out after taking my bike to a bike shop for a good tune up that Diamondback did release this particular bike with bad rear axles. I don't know if the problem has since been addressed. I don't ride the bike extremely hard due to the fact that where I live is pretty flat but I do hit the trails hard. I do recommend this bike for purchase. It rides, shifts, and brakes very smooth. I also HIGHLY recommend buying the extended warranty as well as buying metal pedals to upgrade to before you even take it for the first ride. This bike will take a beating now that the rear end has been sorted out. March 9, 2013
