Rated 4 out of 5áby 2nd Review I reviewed this tent in November of 2011. Gave it 3 stars at the time because of some design concerns (a lot of mesh). Well the tent is still performing just great. Used it for 6-nights on the beach at summer camp this August. Afternoon winds were brutal. Tents all over camp blew down, but not mine. If you orient it right the wind blows right through (lots of mesh, remember). I have had no problems with pole breaks. It is a summer weight tent, but I've gotten 3 strong years through wind, sun, rain & cold, and the tent is still going strong. If you are a fair-weather car-camper you will not find a better value! Rated 5 out of 5áby First trip out torrential rain, 100% dry I used to camp LOTS along the Delaware River in NY?. 30 years ago. 2 weekends ago I convinced my wife and 9 year old daughter to try it out, they LOVED it? in my 30 year old tent, that dripped a bit during a rain storm? They loved it so much; we went to Dick's the Sunday we returned to buy a new larger tent. We ended up with the 6 person River Gorge. We just returned from our second camp trip, first one with the new tent, and what a difference! We got SLAMMED with thunder lightning, and a 2 hour non-stop drenching of heavy rain. We didn't get a drip or rain in the tent at all?. I DID feel some light spray from the pellets of rain hitting the fly and getting through the screen top, but this was NOT a leak, this was from constant hard hitting rain that would have torn up my older tent. I DID have a tarp UNDER the tent and from experience with my older tent, one on the inside floor as well. This morning when we packed up to leave, the inside tarp was 100% DRY as was the tent floor, and we DID take a POUNDING! Before the trip I used camp dry spray on every OUTSIDE seam of the tent and fly, Knowing the weather forecast, at the camp site I sprayed all interior and under seams of the tent and fly. This tent has mesh pouches inside for light things like small flashlights, keys, ect?. The top center of the tent has a loop that we hung a small light from. We kept the window ╝ open to monitor the progress of other campers, nice feature. I would LOVE to see this tent have an easier door like the ones available on other tents, but this tent was priced just right for us. I would buy this same exact again tent in a heartbeat. Rated 4 out of 5áby Still good, but not quite as good. We bought this tent to replace an older Coleman 6 person dome tent. Although it is still easy to put up and stays completely dry even in heavy rain we were disappointed that this tent now only has one door and the rain fly hangs flat against the tent in some places. Rated 3 out of 5áby Inexpensive tent but not high quality The River Gorge is a fairly good "cheap" tent for a family but don't expect high quality. Setup is easy and straight forward and I've used the tent 5 times now. Positives are the cost, size and room, and ese of setup. Negatives are the tent is not the best in the rain and tends to leak a little around the seams. My biggest complaint are the Fiberglass poles. The small awning pole broke on my second setup and it was not because of rough or improper use. Likewise I've noticed that my two primary Fiberglass poles now have stress fractures in several pieces and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before these break as well. From what I've read online the fiberglass poles are a sore point with many people and it bugs me when there at least appears to be a known design problem that should be a fairly easy fix with a more flexible fiberglass pole or possibly a redesign of the awning so the pole is not placed under so much stress. Overall considering the price the tent is a descne tdeal but the cracking fiberglass poles is a huge annoyance. i WOULD STILL RECOMMEND BUT THE POLES ARE AN ISSUE TO CONSIDER. Rated 1 out of 5áby Poles WILL break! I highly recommend you avoid this tent. Put it up in my yard before a long trip, sealed the seams, and it fared in the rain really well. However I noticed that the flimsy rain fly pole was REALLY stressed installing into the two side canvas pockets.Satisfied that I would at least stay dry, we took this tent camping for a week long trip in VT. Again the tent did perfect in the rain. However after taking the rain fly on and off a few times over the course of the week, we noticed that the rain fly poles started to bend where the pole itself goes into the metal sleeve of the next. After a week, these joins were permanently bent, and starting to crack. This pole is so flimsy, and under so much tension, that the plastic/fiberglass material just can't stand up.WORST, I noticed the main tent poles exhibiting the same problem when we tore down. This is after only two put-ups/tear-downs. I've been tent camping for MANY years, and know how to properly and carefully handle these things without breaking them, but this tent simply will NOT last. Regarding the rain fly, this tent was miserable in the summer heat, even in the shade. Most nights we slept with the fly completely off to be comfortable, which is fine, but when it rained it was really hot. Despite staking out the fly properly, the tent is poorly ventilated. If camping in the summer, definitely spring for a tent with a second window! On the good side, this tent was generous in space, especially for only two people and air mattress. I'm 6' and was really comfortable moving about. The saving grace was Dicks generous return policy, which have me a full refund, including the extra purchased insurance, without a single bit of hassle. For that reason I went with the Eureka! Tetragon 5. July 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5áby Camping with grandchildren This is a great tent, plenty of room. Easy to set up and take down with one person. Always easier with 2 or more. Certainly keeps everything dry. Excellent choice for price, space and durability for camping. Coleman products have always been reliable for all of us in my family. May 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5áby TERRIFIC TENT!!! My hubby and I hadn't camped since the early 90's, so we bought all new equiptment. This tent served us very well! It was easy to set up and take down. It was comfortable, roomy (kept reminding myself that I didn't have to crouch down inside...old habit I guess), and well ventilated. I loved the variety of ventilation options. It was great!!! Better yet, no bugs got in at all!!! Great value....great tent!!! September 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5áby Great tent Bought this recently and immediately used it for a scouting trip. Which we had a few inches of snow to contend with overnight. Great value and very pleased with it. Love the headroom, easy to put up and plenty room for 5 scouts and their equipment. I look forward to the next trip and using this great tent. Highly recommended. February 7, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5áby Good Basic Tent Bought this tent last year from Dick's and have used it twice so far. The first was in an open field in central NC in the middle of the summer. The second was in the fall, and I camped on the beach. In calm weather the tent works great. Stays cool inside with good ventilation. There is lots of space. When it rained, the tent didn't do the best job of keeping water out, but managed for the most part. Where this tent struggled was on the beach. In any sustained wind above a light breeze, this tent had a hard time staying up. I had it staked down and guyed out correctly for sand, but the 2 support poles couldn't handle strong gusts and sustained winds. I'd recommend this tent for novice campers looking for something to sleep in on a calm night or good weather, and who don't want to spend a lot of money on a tent. If you plan on doing anything more with it, I'd suggest spending more money on a higher quality product. With tents, you get what you pay for. April 17, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5áby Spacious, poles are cheap. This is a nice big tent, I'm not crazy about the entire upper half being mesh, but I can deal with that. However, after two uses of one night each, one of my main poles is cracking and the small awning pole is broken in two places. I had to pay $20 for two replacement poles. I'm going to try to find aluminum poles to replace them with altogether. September 23, 2013
