SCHUTT HELMET FITTING GUIDE:

  • A properly fitted helmet is an important first step in player protection. To determine head size, wrap a cloth measuring tape around the circumference of the player's head. Measure approximately 1" above the player's eyebrows at the widest point. Record measurement and refer to chart below:

SCHUTT AIR XP YOUTH CUSTOM HELMET SIZE CHART:

  • SMALL: Hat Size - 6" - 6.5"; Circumference - 19" - 20.5"
  • MEDIUM: Hat Size - 6.5 - 7"; Circumference - 20.5" - 22"
  • LARGE: Hat Size - 7" - 7.5"; Circumference - 22" - 23.5"
  • X-LARGE: Hat Size - 7.5" - 8"; Circumference - 23.5" - 25"
  • NOTE: If measurement falls between helmet sizes, choose the smaller size

CHECKING FOR A PROPER HELMET FIT:

  • Interlock hands on top of helmet and press down - player should feel pressure on crown of their head, not their brow
  • Skin of the forehead should move with the front pad
  • Front of helmet should be about 1" above the eyebrows
  • Jaw pads should feel firm against their face
  • There should be no room for twisting
  • To avoid injury or discomfort, never wear a helmet positioned too high or too low

ADJUSTING THE CHIN STRAP:

  • Tighten all four straps evenly until secure and lock buckles into place
  • Cup should be centered and snug over their chin
  • Adjust chin strap until cup is firmly pressed against their chin
  • When buckled, helmet should feel comfortable and snug

Defective out of the box Helmet upper bladder had a hole in it out of the box. Helmet came in and was shipped directly to my son overseas in original box. defective air bladder in upper portion of helmet. Now I will have to see if these are available sepreately for purchase so my son will have functioning equipment. September 5, 2012
Great Helmet Purchased this helmet for my son who is 8 and hits like Clay Matthews! Great helmet that offers the protection for his head that I'm looking for being an ICU nurse. My only issue is that the face mask had a gash in the front and didn't appear "new". I would have taken the time to send it back, but there wasn't enough time before his practices started. Needs a little more attention to detail Bought this for my 9yr old, fits great, didn't need to break it in. I would have rated this product with high remarks however when I went to inflate the top air blatter I could not as the nozzle was not properly aligned with the opening so it took me over 30 min to tinker with it, no success, finally I had to remove the blatter entirely, inflate it, and install back in. Of course dicks return policy says no returns on custom items. The product is great but whoever assembled it...come on pay attention! August 4, 2012
Beware of Colors!!! My son loves this helmet. He said it was super comfortable. No break in period needed. HOWEVER, beware of the colors. My sons team colors are maroon and yellow/gold. The maroon helmet is NOT maroon. It is a purplish/dark plum color. The maroon is really Schutts cardinal color, which you would think would be red. Confirm your color first!!!! August 3, 2012
