SCHUTT HELMET FITTING GUIDE:

  • A properly fitted helmet is an important first step in player protection. To determine head size, wrap a cloth measuring tape around the circumference of the player's head. Measure approximately 1" above the player's eyebrows at the widest point. Record measurement and refer to chart below:

SCHUTT AIR STANDARD II YOUTH CUSTOM HELMET SIZE CHART:

  • X-SMALL: Hat Size - 6-3/8 - 6-5/8"; Circumference - 20" - 20-3/4"
  • SMALL: Hat Size - 6-5/8" - 6-7/8"; Circumference - 20-3/4" - 21-1/2"
  • MEDIUM: Hat Size - 6-7/8" - 7-1/8"; Circumference - 21-1/2" - 22-1/4"
  • LARGE: Hat Size - 7-1/8" - 7-3/8"; Circumference - 22-1/4" - 23"
  • NOTE: If measurement falls between helmet sizes, choose the smaller size

CHECKING FOR A PROPER HELMET FIT:

  • Interlock hands on top of helmet and press down - player should feel pressure on crown of their head, not their brow
  • Skin of the forehead should move with the front pad
  • Front of helmet should be about 1" above the eyebrows
  • Jaw pads should feel firm against their face
  • There should be no room for twisting
  • To avoid injury or discomfort, never wear a helmet positioned too high or too low

ADJUSTING THE CHIN STRAP:

  • Tighten all four straps evenly until secure and lock buckles into place
  • Cup should be centered and snug over their chin
  • Adjust chin strap until cup is firmly pressed against their chin
  • When buckled, helmet should feel comfortable and snug

Pony up the $ and upgrade This is an entry level helmet and a bargain. It will get the job done, but I recommend you spend the extra $ and upgrade. My son constantly complained that it was uncomfortable. I thought it was all in his mind until I compared it with his teammates' helmets. It had far less padding inside. January 23, 2013

Great Helmet - perfect fit This is the third helmet we tried...had issues with the cheaper one ([$]) -- first one too small, second larger one was messed up (face mask did not fit correctly because of placement holes). Bite the bullet and spend the extra $30 to save some time. Fast shipment once order was filled. My son loves the feel of this helmet. August 1, 2012

Excellent Coaching Helmet I bought this helmet for my nephew and have recommended it to friends for their kids. Having coached football for over a decade I will tell you that nothing better prepares a kid for their first years of tackle than being able to work out in the off season with a real helmet. They need to get use to the weight, restricted vision, change in breathing, and heat. Of course there are other helmets with so-called advanced features but rest assured this Schutt helmet is the real deal and worthy of strapping on your kid(s) for practice or game day. June 11, 2012
