Great Starter compass Excellent starter compass I purchased for my son as learns orienteering for Boy Scouts. easy to use guaranteed for life. My only gripe is the starter model does not come with a lanyard. You can make one very simply with items from a craft store though. March 5, 2013
The best pocket compass you can buy Very slim and simple - realy if you need more its not the compass. I've used it in every environmental condition. Had the last one for 8 years. My neglagence broke it, very pleased you will be too. Buy two, 1 for day or specific map use, one for night. Put luminescent tape on bottem of compass (luminescent side up) use supper glue, put velcro on sticky side for easy attachment or accessability. October 19, 2012

It always points in the same direction. How am I suppose to use this? Everytime I change the direction the stupid compass points in the same direction. It's great if I only want to go in one direction though. July 23, 2012
Nice general purpose compass I compete and organize orienteering races. I brought this compass as a back up to my competition compass, which is a Moscow thumb compass. I also use it for hiking and backpacking. As its name implies, it is a very good starter compass. It is accurate and has measuring scales on two sides. There are orienteering lines etched on both the base plate and the movable dial. The clear plastic base plate allows you to set it on a map and read the map through the compass. I do much of the training for the Louisville Orienteering Club and have taught orienteering and map reading in adult education classes for the school board. I suggest purchasing this compass to those considering participating in orienteering events or those looking for a back pack compass. June 4, 2012
