Customer Reviews:

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice general purpose compass I compete and organize orienteering races. I brought this compass as a back up to my competition compass, which is a Moscow thumb compass. I also use it for hiking and backpacking. As its name implies, it is a very good starter compass. It is accurate and has measuring scales on two sides. There are orienteering lines etched on both the base plate and the movable dial. The clear plastic base plate allows you to set it on a map and read the map through the compass. I do much of the training for the Louisville Orienteering Club and have taught orienteering and map reading in adult education classes for the school board. I suggest purchasing this compass to those considering participating in orienteering events or those looking for a back pack compass. June 4, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Reliable This has always been a reliable compass. I used one on top of my Bradley Fighting Vehicle in the Desert Shiled/Storm. Non-magnetic, so they worked great and lasted the whole time I was deployed (August through May). August 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Orienteering As a scout master I teach boy scouts to use a compass and a map to navigate. The Silva compass is easy to use and has all you need to effectively navigate in the wilderness without batteries! The dark band under the dial allows you to easily see the degrees. This is a fairly durable compass and should last a scout for many years. There are more sophisticated models, but this is simple use. May 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Points north! Backup to my GPS April 24, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Compass Enjoyed using this for myself. The reason to use it is that I can direct properly my telescope to a right area of the sky that required the compass to direct. Thank you for showing me the right tool to pick. May 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works well for the price! Unlike many inexpensive compasses this one points to magnetic North consistently. A great starter compass. May 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by smaller and lighter size This compass is just the right size to carry around my neck with out being too bulky. I used it in the mountain while hunting and walking out in the dark to get me back to camp it performed just as good as my bigger and more expesive one October 31, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for kids Great starter compass for younger scouts/campers. Works well independently or with maps, and is inexpensive enough that you don't feel bad when it gets misplaced. October 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best pocket compass you can buy Very slim and simple - realy if you need more its not the compass. I've used it in every environmental condition. Had the last one for 8 years. My neglagence broke it, very pleased you will be too. Buy two, 1 for day or specific map use, one for night. Put luminescent tape on bottem of compass (luminescent side up) use supper glue, put velcro on sticky side for easy attachment or accessability. October 19, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by not quite the same good product have had several over the years since boy scouts to present just not made with the same materials not quite the same quality. July 10, 2014
