Rated 4 out of 5 by Cowtown canoeist. NOT a tippy canoe.
I've owned mine for years and have never had a "tippy canoe" problem with it. Not sure where that comment comes from.

This canoe is great. It is pretty stable and can carry a ton of stuff. The weight may be a little much for older folks, but it isn't easy finding a 14 foot canoe that is lighter without spending $$1500 plus. One suggestion if you don't like a sweaty butt, I would look for the cained seats. We changed the seats and found them much more comfortable, Can fit enough food, clothes, and a tent for a nice long few day camping trip. If you plan on having three in the boat it can get pretty low to the water but is still do-able. Good luck, see you out there!

Rated 5 out of 5 by connan good stable canoe
this canoe is more stable than most I have used, the reason are the ridges that extend near the bottom of the edge of the canoe. ingenious design, it is a little heavy but it makes up for its durability, this will go over rocks and take a great punishment, unlike a metal, wooden or kevlar. I have had an older model old town for over 20 years, what value

My wife and I are both 54, and find this to be a very very stable canoe. It holds us and our gear with ease. The person who said it was 'tippy' obviously didn't canoe very much. For the price, you can't beat it !

Rated 5 out of 5 by Randy W Horton Great Buy!
My family and I are avid canoe and Kayakers. We just purchased the Guide 147 so our 76 year old father could join us and it is great. The person whom wrote, "tippy" must have never used a canoe before! I say buy and enjoy......

We use this Guide 147 to fish fresh water ponds, lakes and rivers. It is stable enough for 2 men and gear. Fits on top of medium sized car,suv or mini van roof rack. Flip up seat backs added to comfort. Rows and turns easily.

NO clue why the previous reviewer called this a "tippy" canoe. He obviously has little experience with boats. We have had ours for 5 years and use it often, even on fast creeks with some class 1 to 2 rapids, and find it stable enough that my granny would be comfortable in it. The Guide is a classic basic canoe that tracks really well on fast water and is a blast to take down narrow rivers with good flow. We also do flatwater kayaking a lot and we often paddle this canoe with our double-ended kayak paddles instead of regular canoe paddles. You need at least a 230 cm but preferably a 240 cm kayak paddle since the canoe is wider than most kayaks. For the price I think a lot of people who are buying cheapo kayaks would do better to buy a Guide 147 canoe. Better for fishing and camping and you can get two people on the lake or river in a fast, stable and easy to handle boat for less than the price of two low end kayaks.
