Rated 4.1 out of 5áby 50 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5áby Nice bag for the price I purchased the "long" version of this at my local Dick's. At first I was surprised to see the price $80 for what I consider a pretty good outdoor gear company. I've looked at other summer weight bags and for a similar item the pricing is usually double. I know there are different fillers, fabrics, etc, that affect the price point, but the fact it was a Marmot, I knew the quality is typically above average. I own a few Marmot clothing and outdoor items, and felt that Marmot is a good quality and value. I used this bag for an extended 5 day weekend kayak camping trip in northern Michigan. The temps dropped into the low 50's at night. I've been looking for a summer weight bag because my go-to bag is overkill on weight and bulk for milder temps. It cut in half the packing size from my other bag, which I appreciated in my kayak. I used this bag to sleep in a hammock and appreciated the slim profile and the longer length. I'm 6'2" and broad shouldered, 210 lbs. I didn't have any problem pulling the bag up and over my shoulders/head with room to spare. Plus, I put a camp pillow in the hood. On the last night it was warmer and I just used the bag on top of me like a blanket. on the cooler nights I also wore capilene to bed. If one was using this bag in a tent I can see where the extra slim profile would be confining and tough to move around. For my hammock experience you're sort of cradled, streamlined by default and I wasn't moving around much. The foot box is small, but again it wasn't a problem in my hammock. For packing it comes with a nice stuff sack and I ended up stuffing the bag into a roll-top dry bag and I reused the stuff sack to pack my hammock with bug guard. After reading some previous reviews on this site, I inspected the zippers and stitching and found them to be consistent and no visible flaws. Some say the zippers catch and I've not owned a bag where the zippers didn't get caught from time-to-time, but over 5 days I didn't have a problem. I'm looking forward to seeing how many seasons I'll get out of this bag. August 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Excellent Sleeping Bag IF YOU ARE SLIM If you are overweight do not buy this sleeping bag. I have a belly and found this bag to be overly restrictive and uncomfortable because I was overweight. However, the bag itself is a wonderful product for those who actually fit into the bag. For those of us, who used to camp and loved our mummy bag, it is better to go without the mummy or buy a bag designed for larger guys. I hope this is helpful. November 15, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5áby Marmot Aspen 40 Minimalist Sleeping Bag I couldn't believe it when I saw a Marmot bag for $69 on sale at Dick's. I wanted a lighter weight bag for summer use and this seems to be it. I find the bag comfortable, not too confining. I'm 5'-8", about 165lbs and flux between large and X-large tees. The bag lofts well if it is stored outside of the compression sack between use. It is comfortably warm down to the 50 degrees that I have exposed it to so far. I believe it would be true to the 40 degree rating for me. It packs extremely small and light for the money. I do sometimes feel like I could use a bit more elbow room in the bag, but only during a restless night. It does seem to move nicely with me without becoming twisted up. The zipper has stuck on me on an occasion or two, once at a bad time for me anyway. With the hood cinched down I awoke and suddenly felt too confined and couldn't get out of the bag quick enough. Nothing like a jammed zipper to add to the anxiety. I have since learned to be a bit more slow and steady and zipper issues become minimal. I called Marmot to check the girth of the bag and they told me it is 63 inches at the shoulder. I did not get the hip measurement. Marmot did tell me that they do fully warranty the bag for life. Overall I recommend this bag for summer if you are of average build. February 23, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5áby Warm, light, but TIGHT I bought this bag because I needed a small and light bag for 3-season backpacking. Size and weight, packed: this bag really does stuff down small and light - manufacturer's specs are correct - and it seems to fluff up enough that you can stay warm at moderate temps. Construction: At first the zipper would snag on the baffle fabric (that little flap inside that helps keep cold air from getting in through the zip)but once the bag recovered from sitting around scrunched up for months in the store, the zip worked better. I also figured out the proper angle to hold the zipper pull to avoid snags... you'll need to experiment a little. The stuff sack is well-made, with four vertical straps and an integrated webbing strap handle. Use: I really wish this bag had just one or two more inches around the torso and shoulders. I'm female, and short but broad: 65 inches tall but 53 inches around my biggest circumference (measured at chest level, including arms... arms held down by sides.) This bag fits but just barely. I've only used it in warmer weather so far, but I don't think I could stand to sleep in it zipped all the way up in colder temps. It's just too confining for me. For car camping, where weight isn't an issue, I'll go back to my roomier, bulkier bag. If you are skinny, this is a good bag for a good price. Chubby and bulky folks may want to test it in-store before buying to be sure it is wide enough. August 14, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5áby Works as described Bought this bag to lighten up my pack. It reduced my carrying weight by about 2 lbs. Had one night that hovered near 40 and keeping it zipped up and around my head I had no issues. I'm 5'10 1/2 and weight 180 & I had enough room in the bag. I recommend the bag for the price. You can go lighter but it will cost twice (or more) as much. June 10, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5áby good bag As always Marmot makes a great bag, only down fall is for guys with big shoulders it won't fit..... but my boy loves it...... August 5, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Great warm weather sleeping bag The sleeping bag was used right away it was a good bag light for. Backpacking July 8, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby lighweight lightweight and small, easy to pack in the backpack. June 25, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby Good Bag Tried it on a four day Adirondack trip. Small enough for kayaking, light enough for hiking. Was comfortable but can become twisted during sleep. Good to about 45 degrees. June 24, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5áby Not Warm Enough This bag was light and great for summer. However, the 40 degree rating was a bit of a stretch. It probably would have been perfect in 60 degree weather. Not recommended for anything other than summer camping. March 24, 2014
