The North Face Men's Chilkat II Winter Boots 4.1 5 82 82
great boot but too small This is a great boot once you get the right size. Listen and believe the reviews on sizing! It will save you the trouble of returning for another size. He normally wears size 11 1/2 but needed a 13 in these. December 13, 2014
Great outdoor winter boot I've had a pair for 5 yrs. Used extensively for winter hiking and snowshoeing. Stiff bottom holds snowshoes and crampons very well and is great for hiking over frozen cobble. Climbed a peak in -4 F with these boots and Darn Tough socks, and feet felt great and toasty all day. Only regret is they finally gave out with the seam between the leather and rubber letting go from flexing. After looking at several other choices, I don't see anything I like better so I'm going to order a new pair. I wear a 10, my old pair was 10.5, might try on an 11 this time. December 10, 2014
Sizing way off. Buying this boot online is hit or miss. The sizing is way off and you would have to purchase a very bulky boot to have a comfortable fit. I would not recommend this boot. December 10, 2014
Perfect once you find the right size I read the reviews on here before purchasing and the consensus was to go with a full size bigger, so I did. I have always been a 9.5 so I ordered the 10.5's. They were a little too snug. I returned them and exchanged for the 11's and they fit great with regular socks or thick winter socks. December 3, 2014
more insulation not as warm as I thought they should be for North Face products need more insulation or a colder weather boots December 3, 2014
Runs super small The boot is cushy, but narrow. No arch support. Good tread and warmth. Runs way small, like nearly 2 sizes too small. This boot traditionally lasts a long time, so sent back. Waiting for larger pair to arrive. Fingers crossed. December 1, 2014
Comfortable but a few issues Boots are undersized. I wear a 10 1/2 boot but needed a size 13. When laced up and tied, the top of the boot edge rubs on my calves. Have worn one time for about an hour and my calves were rubbed raw. Wore 2nd time untied for about an hour and no problems. I'll have to try some more variations. Otherwise comfortable and warm, even untied November 27, 2014
Great boot and my take on the sizing. I typically wear a size 10 in running shoes but have needed a 10.5 on some occasions. I went to Dick's to try these boots out before considering ordering them on-line due to reviewer comments. I first tried a 10 and my toes were touching the front of the boot. I then tried a 10.5 and they fit in terms of length and my toes didn't hit the front, but was definitely tight on my foot. I did this all the way up to a 12 which was no longer tight feeling. At this time, I was under the impression that I needed a 12 in this boot. However, I am indecisive and decided to check the selection on winter boots at another outdoor merchandise store. I decided to try out these boots again (best selection at this store) and asked for a 12. Once again, the boots seemed to fit which was no surprise because of the massive amount of insulation but I decided to take the insole out and compare it to my shoe's insole. As you'd expect, the boot's insole was significantly larger than that of my size 10 shoe, but I wanted to make sure the length of the boot was true to size. At this point, I took a good amount of time walking around in the size 12 and found them to be very comfortable, but I could definitely feel my foot slip around, especially while using the store's simulated outdoor terrain ramp. I also noticed the notorious crease forming from a shoe being too large, which made me wonder if this would cause the rubber to pull from the leather prematurely. So I actually did the same testing in a 10.5 and 11. I found that overtime, the primaloft lining seemed to better form around my foot and not feel as tight. After spending way too long on my decision, I ended up going with the 10.5 because my foot felt the most secure. However, if I consistently wore thick socks, I would have gone with the 11. To summarize my findings: 1. I'd automatically go up a 1/2 size. I wear a 10 and my toes were smashed in the front of the boot (not a tight feeling, but a feeling of my toes are curled up due to lack of length). 2. The 1/2 size up will feel tight around your foot, but the insulation seems to form around your foot and become more comfortable. Your foot will probably not slide around much walking up and down hills. 3. If you wear thick socks, 1 size up may be your best option. Your foot will still feel somewhat tight, but once again, I found it to get better as I walked around. 4. 1 1/2 to 2 sizes up your foot will no longer have the tight feeling, but as you walk around you will notice your foot to move around as you truly will have more length to spare but may not seem that way since the insulation does a great job of forming around your foot. 5. Bottom line: These are great boots but the fit does feel tight due to the thick insulation. I am somebody who doesn't mind the "tight" feeling as long as my toes can move and are not smashed in the toe box hence why I only went up a 1/2 size. If you are somebody who doesn't like the "tight" feeling, then 1 1/2 to 2 sizes up is your best option. I hope this helps and happy holidays November 23, 2014
