Garmin eTrex 20 GPS Bundle 4.3 5 12 12
Garmin Etrex 20 Purchased this unit about 4 weeks ago to use while working in remote/unfamiliar areas across the state. The Etrex has worked flawlessly and is relatively simple to use right out of the box. I bought the bundle package that included a topo map and it has been great for me and also saved me about $50. I have been able to avoid many unnecessary walks that would have taken me miles out of the way by following the topo map. I will not go into the woods without it. This is my first handheld GSP and I choose the Etrex 20 based on the reviews. There are many short youtube instructional clips that are very helpful so I would recommend checking them out to get a better idea of how they work if you are considering making a purchase. great value great value for price, already using most of the features, very little startup learning curve. Batteries last long time! April 16, 2013
This product has great features and is easy to use This product is very easy to use and operate. The button features are easy to understand and use. The manual is very user friendly to use. I have use this GPS to find my way out of new hunting grounds after I shot and had to track a deer. I would recommend any one that is looking for a good GPS to give this one a try. February 21, 2013
Lots of Data - Not much Information Garmin packs a lot of function into the e-trex 20. Plan on spending a lot of time "tinkering" with the product because like most products today, it comes with insufficient information to quickly get up to speed. It's hard to get confused by the details because there aren't any. It's nice reading about all the features in the manual only to find out they aren't in your unit, but instead are in the eTrex 30. It does have a nice feature that allows you t track elevation and then use that plot to show you where on your hike you reached the elevation. Problem is they don't tell you that you don't really have an altimeter in the unit. Garmin support told me it guesses your elevation from the Map information. Well, it doesn't guess too well because if I turn it on, leave it on a table in the living room, it will climb and descend 40 feet in a matter of a few minutes. No I'm not riding the open sea in a houseboat. A mile walk along a brook causes a change in elevation of 120 feet from low to high points with the high point being in the middle. I did not recall running into any waterfalls, nor climbing water. Basically, ignore any elevation information because it is totally bogus. It does seem to be more accurate in distance. Thinking of returning it as defective. January 3, 2013
Etrex 20 Thank you for taking care of my order in the maner it was done. Your staff in Tupelo,MS should be commended. This product is a user unfriendly but works good once you get acustomed to the features( still learning) . I subscribed to Birdseye satalite imagery and have not go t all issues resolved. My faily loves shopping at DIck's and will continue to do so. November 29, 2012
Stumped Great unit but I can't figure out how to load the mapping that came with it. November 14, 2012
Easy to use Easy to understand the operation of the unit. October 17, 2012
not so simple I was using my car GPS prior to purchasing this. This really doesnt make the actual search a whole lot different, just more toys on it. I like it and am glad i have it. Maybe its just me, but it took a lot of playing with befire I really understod all that it does and I probably am still not totally educated about it. I like it and this is a great model because it lites up nicely. I don't care for the way the compass is so I still carry one. October 16, 2012
This unit is simple Easy and works I purchased this unit specifically to use while hunting Elk in the mountains of Colorado. We needed to hit 3 specific spots to cross private land by the national forest. We got the crossing points off of a US Forest service maps and entered them into the unit. Starting out in the dark and into the early Dawn we hit the 3 point and where in the National forest at first hunting light. After using it for hunting for 5 days the only negative I have is the screen is very small and I have to put on my reading spect to see it. It was a good buy with the bundled Topo Map data.
