Rated 3 out of 5 by Worked Great at First. Switch went out Grinder worked great at first. I received it on Thursday used it Friday ground up 25lbs of Deer meat with no issues. Went to go do the second grind the switch wouldn't allow it to turn on and stay on, had to hold it in and was going on and off. The switch is defective. Right in the middle of processing had to go out and buy another one from a competitor as they are not stocked in the store in my area. So that I could finish making the jerky and sausage. I will be returning this to the store today for a refund. Would have keep it if switch didn't go out. May 23, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heavy Duty meat grinder The Weston #8 meat grinder has a strong motor and grinds all cuts of meat we have tried so far. This is the real deal, not a pretender. Very satisfied with this purchase. February 23, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Rebate doesnt apply to this model Thought the grinder would be a good value at 49.00 after the advertised 25.00 rebate. Upon receiving the item and attempting to fill out the rebate paperwork found out it doesn't apply to this model. Based on research and other reviews did not think the grinder was worth 75.00. Found a higher end LEM model for a little more money. Returning the item to the local DICKs was not a problem so would be willing to try ordering from DICKs on line in the future January 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Did the job well! I bought this grinder for seasonal use with venison. The grinder handled processing without a problem. I followed the instructions, using chilled, cubed pieces. I started with medium then went to the small plate for excellent results. The grind was smooth and consistent. Easy to clean after use. January 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by So Far So Good Within the first three days of ownership we ground through 8 deer and made a batch of summer sausage. I was concerned when first looking at the manual that every page seemed to have a warning about not using the machine more then 15 minutes at a time before letting it cool. But we never had an issue. I am protective to make sure small bones or large pieces of meat are not forced down the shoot. Our family of hunters were very satisfied and it certainly sped up our processing time. With a rebate we spent $50! Like I said, So Far, So Good! January 11, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great grinder Did just what we needed it to, grind venison and pork, and made sausage. No problem with it. Had a steady stream of meat going in and coming out, never a problem overloading it. Good price, and it was the only store to have one "in store". January 11, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by amazed! New Years Eve , had to make my links today for the meat was ready. (3 day process to make Cudighi) Stopped at my local Dicks Sporting Goods, they had this one and only this single box in this store. $99 so I grabbed it. Got to the register with my 25% off coupon knowing it would be $75. It scanned $69, better deal! Got home knowing of a review for the noise but was pleasantly surprised it wasn't noisy at all. I had already ground my pork to 3/8 with a large hand grinder. It was an absolute ease attaching the sausage nozzle and even easier to start filling the casing. The only problem I had was air being pumped into the casing so I put a cocktail stirring straw under the sleeve of casing and continued. In no time at all I processed 10 lbs of links. The cleanup was very easy Excellent value for the 2 times a year I make sausage. December 31, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Price - Very loud but works well First off I appreciate the other reviewers note concerning the rebate as this had me stumped. A bit disappointed in the rebate but not a deal breaker. That said the unit seems good quality in that the tray and tubing is all metal, actual metal...Wow. The motor is a single speed (also has reverse) which is ok not great. When there's no meat being fed into the unit it is very, very loud! Somewhat concerning as I feel pressure to either turn it off or hastily feed more meat in. Clearly the motor is strong as the machine devours the strips or chunks of meat with ridiculous ease. I ground about 10lbs of venison in absolutely no time and the clean up was easy. My only mechanical concern is the drive gear being plastic. So much so that they included a spare. So to net it out. Pros- - Price, the sale price of $70-80. - Metal meat processing parts - strength of motor and auger - blade is sharp - easy to clean - acesseries included for sausage - three disks for sizing Cons- - Loud, very loud, I might even recommend hearing protection - plastic drive gear - single speed drive motor - plastic stuffer December 14, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Misleading advertising - the rebate does NOT apply to this grinder Be aware that the rebate advertised with this grinder does NOT apply. The price is still not bad, the grinder quality may be good, we have not yet tried it. But if you buy one, check the model number on the box against the rebate applicable one as soon as you get it, and then decide if you still want the grinder or not. At Dick's reduced price of $75 without the rebate it might still be good value. Just verify before you assume it is costing $50, because there is one digit different in the middle of the model number and that means the pictured / advertised grinder is NOT applicable. My wife made contact with Dicks online support who told her it is not their rebate but Weston's so they can not answer. Fair enough maybe, but Dick's advertising of the rebate on that specific grinder then is misleading. When my wife checked with Weston, they told her the mismatch means there is no rebate. One star and no I don't recommend it may not be fair to the product, but not having tested the grinder, simply reporting back on the rebate, that rating is what I feel it is worth at this point.
