My wife's 12 year old Shimano Sahara spinning reel bit the dust, so I needed to replace it. This reel was half the price of what the Sahara cost 12 years ago, and it is at least as good. Ultra smooth and very powerful. My wife loves it, I love it, and I am buying another one to replace my old Shimano. You cannot go wrong with this reel, especially if you catch it on sale. Highly recommended !

Rated 5 out of 5 by al8995 Durable and affordable
I have 3 of these reels now and have owned 2 of them for over a year. I made the mistake of letting them freeze up with salt over the winter and last spring I had to soak them in wd40 and then clean them and oil them. I thought they would never work again but after a complete break down and clean/oiling, they work like new again! They are very simple to take apart and put back together so if you fish salt water and want something strong, smooth, and affordable, look no further! They don't compare to my penny fierce/battle reels but they are way cheaper and work good enough for the pier/surf. If you maintain these reels they will last a long time!
I use the 65 with 40lb braid for my surf/pier rods. The 45 is a good choice for inshore fishing for reds, trout, flounder, etc. These reels will probably last a lifetime if you just used them in fresh water!

Rated 5 out of 5 by JUT VERY NICE...
I bought two of these reels, I can assure you besides not being as smooth as a high end reel this thing is a beast... I have a $100 skeet Reese reel and besides the SLIGHT difference in the smoothness of reeling it in, I prefer this 10 to 1 to my SR... Do yourself a huge favor and buy this reel...

Rated 2 out of 5 by VTTri Not so great...but not the worst
It's not the worst reel, for $40. And that's what it is, don't believe the "sale" price saying it retails for $90. It's a $40 reel. I have the 35. It's smooth enough, and the drag has good adjustment, and it's light. However, the handle is a wimpy and flexed even when have a medium size fish on (think 8lb striper). The whole body feels weak, and when under strain, the whole thing feels unbalanced. However, I've only used it once, and I'm returning it. Not worth it, for $20 more I'll get a Penn Fierce that will last much longer and is much better made. I do have 20lb PP on it but it's on a rod rated to 12lb test, so I'm not over working it. This thing is about a 1/3 of the reels my Wright and Mcgill Sabalos are, and like I said, less than 1/2 the reel of the Penn fierce. Ball bearing number isn't everything...and I think Okuma could have done better with this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Yeffrey Greta reel for the price I paid
This reel was on sale for $40, $30 off the original price. It is a great value. I wanted a reel with a large arbor for long casting & something quiet. It casts great & has been perfect every time. It is quiet enough. If they are still on sale then I will purchase two more today. I had also purchased the CS-55 for saltwater. I plan to test it within the next month on Cape Cod when the stripers return.
