Rated 5 out of 5 by Great action I purchased this reel on Thursday and used it on Friday. It gave nice casts and smooth reels; even with a fish on the hook. June 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this reel, 2nd time purchase I bought this same reel 4 years ago, for the purpose of it's ease of operation. (I have nerve damage in my right hand, causing loss of use/numbness in my thumb) I loved the way it casts, and was very reliable. It does have some difficulty picking up line that is bigger than 10# strength. I usually use 6# or 8#, and it works great. I usually pond fish for bass, but I made the mistake of using it for some saltwater inter-coastal fishing. Oops, the inner workings are not suitable for saltwater, and the springs that work the line pickup posts rusted out. May 8, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Only lasted about a year This reel is junk. I had the rod combo and the rod snapped of when i was tying on a new hook and the reel only lasted about a year before it got a birds nest which i had to just start cutting. Havnt even tryed putting more line on because the trigger dosent work!! December 27, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good reel, except I find this to be a pretty good reel. I am for the most part pleased with mine. There is one exception. You can wear this reel out. The problem exists with all of the Shakespeare reels of similar design. Inside the reel is what is called the PUH assembly, it has the pins that pop out and catch hold of the line and wind it around the spool as the you crank and the assembly rotates. These pins are mounted in nylon and are pushed of the assembly housing when that nylon comes in contact with the center post. The nylon wears over time and eventually the pins stick out less and less and you will get to a point where they don't stick out far enough to pick up the line unless there is tension on it. I do a lot of creek fishing casting lures repeatedly and can wear one of these out in a single season. But if you are not constantly casting and retrieving like I am, such as in bait fishing, this is an excellent reel for the price. September 10, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Drag is Terrible! The max drag setting on this reel is so bad it's like it isn't even on! To make sure that I wasn't mistaken I caught fish on the max in both directions of the - and settings! Very bad product!!! July 22, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by junk After 5 times of using this reel it kept getting tangled and jammed up. Returned got my money back July 8, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good caster, Easy to use with 4 amd 6 lbs test line, not good with 8 lbs it gets tangle up to much. Wife loves it, planning on buying another one here soon. August 29, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Broken in package. Couldn't fish with it to review. Broken in package. August 23, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by synergy reel This reel is a decent spincast for a cheap price. I used it for pond and stream fishing, paired up with a light action ugly stick, but I'm upgrading to a spinning reel. Though the drag on the reel is very weak, it handles panfish and small bass well. But, it can wear out and strip your line. This is a good beginner's reel and it served me well. July 23, 2013
