Jugs PS-50 Perfect Strike Pitching Machine 4.3 5 34 34
Quality At A Good Price Bought it online for my 11 year old son for Christmas 2013. Received it in just a few days UPS. Used it all winter, spring and half the summer at least a couple days a week. It is a workhorse and is throwing just as accurately as when I first got it. The league is going to buy two for next season to use with the new kids in a pitching machine league. Great product. EXCELLENT MACHINE ! THROWS JUST LIKE THE BIGGER ONE I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY 7U AND 12U BOYS AND THEY BOTH LOVE THIS MACHINE.. DO NOT SPEND 1300.00 FOR THE LARGE BULKY ONE WHEN YOU HAVE THIS.. EASY TO SET UP AND WILL RUN SILENTLY FOR TWO HOURS ON THE BLACK AND DECKER BATTERY PACK (90 BUCKS AT HOME DEPOT AND CHARGE FOR 40 HOURS THE FIRST TIME) I AM USING RAWLINGS REAL LEATHER BASEBALLS WHICH WORK GREAT!! LOVE THIS MACHINE AND GREAT PRICE ! July 1, 2014
Batters WILL improve their hitting skills with PS-50 I have used machine with 14 year old intermediate team. Highly recommend product having used it now since Jan 14. First problem- machine would not turn on and the fuse was good--I called JUGS--friendly customer serivce and a new electric box is being shipped today. NO HASSLE! The only company this friendly to purchaser was Garmin. The machine is easy to set up--throws dimple balls more accurately than baseballs-but you can clean wheel frequently to improve acccuracy. Occasional errant pitch teaches kids to get out of the way! Machine throws high fly balls. I have used backstop as homerun fence to teach kids to get comfortable with fielding near or against fence--easy to adjust distance. Only costly item is 100 ft 12 guage extension which I recommend over the 14 gauge. Great product-thanks Dan and Don for sending new part out today without any grief!!! Great For My 10U team I am really impressed with the accuracy and quality of this machine especially considering the price. Throws perfect popups for my catcher and infielders. Does everything I need for even my 12 year olds. November 21, 2013
Great Value Bought this a few weeks ago to share between 10U and 12U fastpitch travel teams. Have about 1,500 balls through it so far (at least) and no problems to report. FYI you can use 11" balls with this machine. The kit comes with a baseball and a 12" ball feed adapter, but the 11" balls work well. The only "non issue" is a 11" ball being fed through a 12" adapter can leave room for "wiggle" in the feed to the wheel and some (very little) accuracy can be noticed. I dont find this to be an issue because, as a coach, I want the kids to learn to identify pitch location and adjust. So a few inches one way or another is not an issue. If it is an issue for you, you can purchase the 11" adapter. I suggest using the Jugs dimple balls for two reasons, first, they leave the tire clean. I have used leather covered game balls in the machine and it always requires cleaning the "gunk" off the tire after a practice. Second, the Jugs sting free balls wont hurt the kids game bats. I called Jugs, and Easton to confirm this. Easton was fine with their bats (alloy and comp) being used with the Jugs sting free balls. Jugs told me theirs are 11% softer than a regulation game ball. We still use "cage bats" for most practice, but its nice to know they can swing their game bat from time to time. Dont know how some state the machine is cumbersome, but my guess is they havent dealt with the full sized machines. It is a solid metal build but the PS50 is easily IMHO a one man setup. I fit it in my sedans truck with ease (easier than the Louisville spring loaded machine) and can take it out, attach the legs, and walk it over to the field with ease. Accuracy has been better than expected, and it will throw pop ups that easily match the height of anything a 10U player can hit (and most 12U players as well). When set to throw them sky high I can achieve a range of about 120 feet (distance not height) with the 11/12" balls. Not sure on the speed as I havent had a chance to clock it with a gun, but it's certainly faster than any 10U pitcher throws, and easily fast enough for 12U practice. Sure, there may be a few girls out there throwing past the 50 mark, but that doesnt mean you can't practice with a few MPH less than the max. It's only a 1 amp motor and so a small generator is more than enough. I picked up a 1KW inverter model by Champion (Champion Power Equipment 72531i ) for about $420 on Amazon. Only 34 lbs and quiet. Between the generator, 40 dimple balls and the PS50 we are talking less than $1,200 which is less than one of the full sized machines alone! And I have to imagine any reapair parts in the future will be significantly less too. Cant beat that value for a travel team. September 20, 2013
Great machine Little leery when taken it out of box with the small wheel. Set up and started with one person. Light weight, easy to use. Great for the age group intended. May 4, 2013
suprised Not one to write reviews, but I have to say that this product is solid. I am an assistant coach for coach pitch league for 7-8 year olds. My head coach was out of town for the week and I am a terrible pitcher. Not to mention our kids were weak at bat. Luckily our fields are equipped with outlets. I had just previously bought and returned a red plastic pitching machine from another manufacturer that lacked accuracy so bad it actually hit my own kids several times so they didn't even want to use it. I was pretty skeptical, but hoping that this unit being more heavy duty would work. And after our first practice of 15 boys getting 25 pitches a piece the machine worked great. The only thing to watch out for is using balls with inconsistent size. If you are like me, you may not know that baseballs from different manufactures are not consistent in size. So a couple of boys had to take cover when a we used a couple of stray balls, but if we stayed with the same bucket than the pitches were always perfect strikes. April 9, 2013
Disappointed Bought the pitching machine. Also bought a few buckets of dicks baseballs and softballs and was not told I needed specific balls (high quality leather or rubber) to use with the pitching machine. It tore the cover of all the balls in the dicks buckets and had to spend $200 more to get right balls. Bought pitching machine in store but they had to order it for me and ship it. Bought balls same time. March 31, 2013
Five games on it's first day I am a borard member of a local youth baseball league and we were in a pinch a couple of weeks ago. We couldn't get our non electric catapult type machine to work and we had a machine pitch jamboree the next day. I picked up the PS-50 and at first when we were trying it out, we were getting some balls. We then followed jugs directions and sanded the tire a bit with the sandpaper they provided and we got 5 games worth of nothing but strikes. We use the RIF 5 balls for our games and couldn't be happier with the accuracy. We will be getting a couple of more for the league soon. March 6, 2013
A must have for the price! I purchased this machine for my kids to get an early start on the season during the winter months. I've used it in doors and out. We used all types of balls they all work, you just have to re adjust the pitch location. I've had it about a month and its been great. Tennis balls indoors!! For those that can't afford the cages it works perfect.. March 5, 2013
