Field & Stream Field Lodge 6 Person Dome Tent 3.5 5 68 68
Has dome design issues, but it's cheap Summary: Good: -Cheap. -Cheap. -Cheap. Bad: -Tent leaks: due to top of the rain fly sagging and the seams not being sealed. -Difficult initial setup and requires 2 people to setup. -Heavy. OK for car camping. My qualifications: Avid outdoors man. Family of 5 kids. Camping for years. I have used this tent for about 3 years. And still use it. But plan on having to figure out how to setup first few times. Many of the reviews here cover these points. But here's my experience. The instructions are minimal. You will need to figure out which way the tent hubs go (turn 90 degrees or not) every time. I finally resolved it by marking the 2 plastic hubs after a successful setup. This is not a show stopper, but when you need to pitch the tent in a hurry, it's very frustrating! Initially while you are trying to figure out which pole goes where (they are color coded, but it's not clear where the colors go - they match the tiny colored strip on the hole which is difficult to see and last set of poles do not have color and neither does the hole that it belongs to - see what I mean?), you will need another person to help you. If you are doing with children, you will need couple of them since this tent is big. The stakes that come with the tent is the cheap kind. I replaced with nice aluminum ones. You will too. The vestibule is very nice and big. Loved it. The seams will have to be sealed to make them water proof. You will have to do this in case of rain and if you camp at a location that is very heavy in vegetation. The top of tent, which is mesh started contacting the rain fly after couple of years of use. So when it rains, the tent leaks. When there is a lot of perspiration (many people sleeping in the tent) without enough ventilation (like in early spring or fall), there's a lot of condensation build up. They will drip on to your sleeping bags ... inside the tent. I have tried various methods to separate the top of the rain fly which now sags, but it is very difficult. My family had a great use of the tent first 2 years as a three season tent, but now ONLY use it for fair weather tent (when it doesn't rain or there isn't a lot of vegetation). Got 3 years of use out of it. So it's relatively cheap. If I can figure out a practical way to keep the rain fly off of the mesh tent top, I can use this for few more years. So this tent can be a good (and cheap) buy, but be ware of the shortcomings. Have fun outdoors! October 3, 2014
Hard to set up, nice tent when you figure it out Nice tent, instructions are poor, it does take two people to set up. I hope I remember the short cuts the next time I camp. Once up I like the protected entryway September 16, 2014
This tent saved our trip This tent was easy to set up and kept us completely dry during an unexpected downpour of rain. August 21, 2014
Happy Happy Happy Bought this tent a while back. Lent it out before I even got it out of the shipping box. Came back without some of the spikes and the instructions. Put my Girl Scout skills to the test and got it up in about 30 minutes just looking at the pictures. Can't wait to get more spikes and a camp stove and have fun. Really roomy. Last tent was a 2 man - so this is obviously an upgrade. Thanks Field & Stream. August 17, 2014
Great Tent Went on a week long camping trip "up north' as we say in MN. Initial set up was a little confusing would recommend setting it up before you go on a trip to get used to it. The vestibule is fantastic and the ventilation is second to none. The whole back opens up to give you an unobstructed view to whatever is behind the tent. I would recommend pointing that end to the lake or the scenery you are camping on as it acts much like a screened in porch. The one drawback is that you have to go outside to open up the rain fly to see out of it. Cant wait to go on another trip with this tent. August 11, 2014
Do not buy!!!!!!! Directions are terrible, takes two people to set up, sags and holds water, and absolutely impossible to put back in the bag when done. I really wish I could return this piece of trash. July 27, 2014
Overall this is a decent tent. Although the set-up directions were poor and the tent poles lacked identification, once I figured out how to assemble it properly, this tent seemed well made with some nice features. I liked the vestibule built in to the fly and the generous zippered window area on the front of the tent. I think they should be more realistic/honest, though, about the number of people this tent can hold. It seems like a four (possibly 5) person description would be more fair and accurate. Not practical It takes 3 people to put up after you have studied the directions, the vestibule sags in the rain so a puddle can form. Just wasn't right for our purposes. June 29, 2014
Great Tent... Except Been using this tent for years for week long camping trips with my family and it has held up great. Well built and allows for great ventilation... However it does REQUIRE that you buy a boat cover support pole. The center of the vestibule seriously sags during rain and if you dont support the center you will end up with a foot deep pool of water on the roof. A simple mushroom top boat cover support prevents this. Would highly recommend, if you also purchase a support pole. June 20, 2014
