Faulty Gears This bike will not stay in first gear. When in first gear, it tries to shift to second about every third revolution. A really big problem when applying significant pressure going up a hill. May 17, 2013
Son loves bike My son loves the springs, especially. He is thrilled to have so many gears to choose from and its speed. He's still getting used to the hand breaks. He was heartbroken when a friend flipped over on it and the gear shifters cracked. May 14, 2013
Excellent bike We gave this bike to our 11 year old son a week ago. He absolutely loves it! So far, the bike is great. He is new to having hand brakes and has made the transition easily. The extra shocks are nice and the look of the whole bike is great. We ride through town and on trails and it handles both nicely. He tells us that he lies in bed dreaming about his new bike! bike review Good quality bike price was more than I wanted to pay but I am happy with purchase April 23, 2013
Good Buy We bought this bike for our 10 year old son. He's in-between the kid's / adult size bikes and will probably only ride this for a couple of years. Hopefully it will last long enough for my younger son to get some ride time on it as well. We have about 20 miles of some pretty decent trails / hills with mixed terrain and he LOVES the bike. The quality of the components is in line with a bike of this price; they're on the bottom end of the scale for sure but for us they have been solid and we haven't had any issues yet. There were two of these bikes in the store and one of them had a derailleur that was either broken or out of adjustment. After reading the other reviews, I may go back and see if I can still get the extended warranty. I will also be going over the bike with a wrench to make sure his handlebars don't fall off. The Dick's associate was awesome and it was obvious that he enjoyed his job. He went through a comprehensive checklist and made adjustments as necessary. I think as long as you don't beat the heck out of this bike and have a good understanding of the mechanics of bikes in general and keep everything tight and greased you'll do fine with this purchase. Personally I voted we buy a small (13" or so) "Mens" model which he would have grown into and gotten more use out of but the price tag of a good entry model small frame bike is in the $300 range. I'm pretty sure he'll be 6' tall in a few years at which point we'll buy a full size 29er hardtail (and I'm already struggling to keep up with him). April 16, 2013
Bike gets a 0 Dick's gets a 10 I bought this bike with high expectations, but when I rode the bike the derailleur got Stuck in the spokes. The folks at Dick's were very accommodating and helped me greatly. However I would recommend going with another model (not DBX) at Dick's. April 7, 2013
poor quality and dangerous I bought this bike for my son and it broke the first time he rode it. Took back to store and they fixed it. Problem solved or so I thought. Then it broke down the next day. Tried returning to dicks but they said could not something about California state law. thought that was b.s but they did fix it for free. since then I have never been back to dicks. Don't buy this bike the handle bars come off for no reason and I have to fix something everytime my son rides it. so now it sits in the garage because it is unsafe. February 23, 2013
Perfect My 11 year old son was thrilled with his new bike which he uses daily to commute to and from school. No issues whatsoever. The bike was given a whole tune-up in-store before we left the store with it. November 13, 2012
Derailer wrapped in spokes. Dangerous The rear derailer wrapped up into spokes. Lucky to have purchased service plan with bike. New free replacement derailer wrapped into spokes a month later. Dangerous for children. Locked up wheel and threw my daughter. Research on internet shows this to be a Shimono's cheapest $13 derailer. Not worth risking my daughter on this rat trap. Cheap construction My son chose this bike from the available ones in this size category, when we got home I needed to readjust nearly everything on the bike... gears, brakes wheel adjustment. Ultimately, the front gears did not line up nor were they working properly at all, also my son could not turn the shifter with reasonable pressure. Bad design on gears...yes, poor build by Dick,s...yes. I returned the bike for a different brand. September 10, 2012
