Favorite finesse bait for clear water Since a buddy insisted I use Zoom flukes for Smallies on the Shenandoah they have become my go-to bass bait. I find they fish best when you use a walk-the-dog type motion just below the surface with no added weight just a 3/0-6/0 offset worm hook depending on the size of the fluke. I use the regular size for smallmouth on the New and Shenandoah and have caught fish when others aren't and caught maybe my biggest largemouth of the year on a super fluke in Ontario where the clear water makes finesse necessary. My only complaints are that smaller fish often miss the hook and adding weight really seems to affect the sliding action that I find works best. I suggest a variety of colors since smallies sometimes respond differently to them and using a trailer hook on the super flukes if you don't want to miss some fish. April 9, 2012
