Old Town Canoe Saranac 146 Canoe 4.5 5 21 21
Saranac 146 This canoe is excellent for fishing. My son and I bought this for trout fishing and I cannot say enough about it. Perfect boat for fishing streams and lakes. It tracks perfectly with no effort. You can solo paddle this boat easily and it was very comfortable for two grown men to fish in. This canoe is so sturdy with absolutely no instability out on the lake. Great boat and Dicks had the lowest price I could find. I would recommend this canoe for families and for fishing guys like me. I bought it online and with Dicks 10 percent online discount the final price was 459 dollars. I picked it up in the store and great days exploring followed. November 7, 2014
Solid built & sensible extras With Dry lock compartments and folding seat backs this is a great canoe for fishing or just tooling around for the day. November 5, 2014
Great canoe Used twice already and it does the job. Is confortable for 2 adults a 2 little kids. Unbeatable for the price. October 28, 2014
Terrific canoe, great service! We purchased the Old Town Saranac 146 canoe earlier this week after reading the reviews and choosing it over a well known competing brand that we had tried out previously and had considered buying. We are VERY glad we chose the Saranac! It is very stable, handles wonderfully well even in moderate waves and literally glides across the water. It is much better and sturdier built than the comparable brand. We hoped the padded seats with backrests would be comfortable and were pleasantly surprised when they surpassed our expectations. A great canoe I would definitely recommend. Also, to Amy, our salesperson at the Salina store, THANK YOU! You were most helpful without being overbearing, great about getting us loaded up, flagged (or ballooned!) and very efficient at correcting a checkout error. Your suggestion on the paddle purchase was spot on and we appreciate all your efforts! October 22, 2014
Good canoe! The customer service was excellent when purchasing this canoe. The gentleman helped me strap down the canoe to my truck so it would be secure. He was a very nice man. This canoe worked out well for my 9 year old son and I. We plan to add another person or two on our trips in the future. I would recommend two people trying it out first before you add more, remember the weight limit before you promise anyone you will take them out in it. This boat does get scratched easy but it doesn't hurt the working of the canoe. We recommend protecting your vehicle so it doesn't get scratched as well. This was on online purchase with a pick up in the store. September 12, 2014
Dick's staff pleased the Customer My wife and I bought a canoe of different name off the wall at Dicks in Rock Hill Sc. We went to the store to pick up the canoe Saturday and noticed scrapes and gouges on bottom of canoe. I was very displeased and refused to buy it. The manager offered us an Old Town Saranac 146 for the same price. He said Dick's is out to please the customer. I am very happy with Dicks in Rock Hill Sc. and we are very pleased with our Saranac by Old Town. I will always shop at Dick's from now on. Special thanks to day Manager, and floor men Tim and Rob for the service and help.....Ed & Wanda August 30, 2014
Great canoe for the money This is a great value and This is a great value and a very comfortable easy to use canoe. July 30, 2014
Decent canoe. Trailer recommended. This is a decent canoe for the price. I purchased mine as a fishing boat, which is what it seems to be geared towards. For the most part, everything does what it is supposed to do just fine, there were no particular areas of the boats functionality that left me disappointed. It's very stable and comfortable. However, the plastic it is made of is incredibly fragile. The hull had deep gashes in it before it was even put in the water. If you do not install skid plates, expect to be patching holes before you've been on a dozen outings. I wanted to write this review mostly as a heads-up for future buyers who plan to primarily canoe solo. There is a very good reason that there are two carrying handles on this boat. First off, this boat is heavy and hard to manipulate with only one person. I am very skeptical that the 79 lb. weight rating is factual. Portaging is technically possible by yourself, but you will be sweating profusely if you portage it on your shoulders. I never managed to do it, since the boat is wide at the center and difficult to flip onto my shoulders. A canoe dolly is heavily recommended if you are going to transport this boat solo. Due to its weight and awkward dimensions, a trailer is also highly recommended. After an afternoon of failed attempts to load this thing onto my shoulders, let alone the roof of my car, I decided to purchase a hitch and a trailer for my Mustang GT just to get this thing around. Pretty Good Canoe Pros: Canoe is light, steers and tracks easily. Seats are comfortable. Seems durable. Cons: Storage compartment is junk (it is not waterproof - as the cover would indicate) July 23, 2014
GREAT CANOE Purchased 2 Saranac 146 Canoes 3 years ago and I wanted to use them a while before reviewing them. My family and I have used them for recreation and fishing during this time. They performed flawlessly throughout the years. The seats are comfortable, the canoe is very stable, very roomy for 6' 210 lb. man, it holds alot of gear and it is easy to handle on the water and during transporting to and from the water ( back of pickup truck). I would not hesitate in purchasing this canoe. We are very happy with the saranac 146 June 25, 2014
