Rated 5 out of 5 by Great canoe for the money This is a great value and This is a great value and a very comfortable easy to use canoe. July 30, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Decent canoe. Trailer recommended. This is a decent canoe for the price. I purchased mine as a fishing boat, which is what it seems to be geared towards. For the most part, everything does what it is supposed to do just fine, there were no particular areas of the boats functionality that left me disappointed. It's very stable and comfortable. However, the plastic it is made of is incredibly fragile. The hull had deep gashes in it before it was even put in the water. If you do not install skid plates, expect to be patching holes before you've been on a dozen outings. I wanted to write this review mostly as a heads-up for future buyers who plan to primarily canoe solo. There is a very good reason that there are two carrying handles on this boat. First off, this boat is heavy and hard to manipulate with only one person. I am very skeptical that the 79 lb. weight rating is factual. Portaging is technically possible by yourself, but you will be sweating profusely if you portage it on your shoulders. I never managed to do it, since the boat is wide at the center and difficult to flip onto my shoulders. A canoe dolly is heavily recommended if you are going to transport this boat solo. Due to its weight and awkward dimensions, a trailer is also highly recommended. After an afternoon of failed attempts to load this thing onto my shoulders, let alone the roof of my car, I decided to purchase a hitch and a trailer for my Mustang GT just to get this thing around. Rated 3 out of 5 by Pretty Good Canoe Pros: Canoe is light, steers and tracks easily. Seats are comfortable. Seems durable. Cons: Storage compartment is junk (it is not waterproof - as the cover would indicate) July 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT CANOE Purchased 2 Saranac 146 Canoes 3 years ago and I wanted to use them a while before reviewing them. My family and I have used them for recreation and fishing during this time. They performed flawlessly throughout the years. The seats are comfortable, the canoe is very stable, very roomy for 6' 210 lb. man, it holds alot of gear and it is easy to handle on the water and during transporting to and from the water ( back of pickup truck). I would not hesitate in purchasing this canoe. We are very happy with the saranac 146 June 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great entry level canoe Got the best price for this baby from Dick's. I find it to be more stable than most canoes. It has lots of features like stage compartments and adjustable seat backs. It is not flimsy like other entry level canoes. I have a nice full size motor boat, but I bought this thing to beat the heck out of. I float this canoe like it is stolen. We hit everything with it. Yeah, its all scratched up, but still works great. Don't waste your money on cheaper brands. June 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by price very good canoe price great to sit in light easy to carry May 29, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Canoe My wife and I just bought one a little while ago. We both have used several others makes, models and materials (Aluminum, Fiberglass and Kevlar). It is not very heavy for the size and material, it only weighs 79lbs. and is easily manageable. It tracks very well, has very good initial stability, is extremely stable while paddling and turns very quickly when you need too. The padded seats are very comfortable, I'm not sure how breathable they are to prevent sweating, it just hasn't been hot enough yet to test that out. The hull will scratch easily, but hey, its polyethylene, but because it is, it will scratch, not crack, unlike aluminum, or fiberglass can sometimes. For the price, I don't think there is a much better canoe out there for the casual paddler who is out to fish or just have fun. May 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Seats Yes it does all the canoe things, floats and turns and glides, but the seats are incredible. It is almost like sitting in a lazyboy. Someone knew what they were doing, the backrest is great. I also like the water tight holder for keys etc.. October 18, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Breaks too easy! My husband and I bought this canoe three weeks ago. We liked the light weight, the comfy seats, the handling of it both on and off the water; it's maneuverability on the water and ease of loading on the truck roof rack). Three weeks after buying it, the top frame rail cracked just below the handles both front and back where the screws attached the handle mechanism to the boat. This made it dangerous to use or carry. We were heartbroken. I called Dick's Sporting Goods and they were readily willing to replace the canoe. Upon inspection of the 2 other same make and model canoes in stock, it was found that they too were cracked in the same place. We opted not to order another Saranac 146 because this is obviously a defect that needs to be addressed. September 23, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great with two people I have owned this canoe for several months and taken it out 5 times. The seats are incredibly comfortable. The seat back and padding are really appreciated on longer trips. The canoe performs well and is easy to handle. Stability is an issue with three adults in the boat. The hull seems to scratch and scuff very easy. All in all, I am very happy with this canoe. Just keep that middle seat vacant. June 14, 2013
