Rated 4 out of 5 by Fantastic, safe yak!!! Great for coastal fishing!!! I bought this Kayak last year from my local Dicks for the sole purpose of using it to fish coastal waters. I am fortunate to have access to a creek in my neighborhood that empties into the intracoastal waterway and needed a kayak that was rugged enough to get me through shallow muddy flats and over oyster beds. I didn't want to shell out a ton of money on something I knew was going to take a beating, get scratched, caked in mud etc. If you are looking for a kayak that will get you into the tight, shallow spots where the fish like to hang out than this kayak is for you. I have hauled in reds, flounder and specks in spots where boats just can't get to. My only gripe with this yak is the lack of storage space. There are ways around it though. You can get a deck bungee kit, install it to the front of the yak and bungee on a cooler, bag, etc. Also, the milk/office crates you find at Office Depot fit perfectly in the back of this kayak. Just bungee it in. Head to lowes for some PVC tubing, cut the length to the height of the crate, drill holes and zip tie inside or outside the crate for more rod/net holders. You can keep all your tackle in the crate as well. When the water gets cooler and you need to plug your scupper holes to keep dry, yellow practice golf balls, the harder foam ones, are a perfect fit. I just use a 4 lb hand weight tied to achor line and it will hold all day long, even on rough windy days on the ICW. I installed an easy anchor trolly that can keep the nose of my boat pointed where I want. I love to fish first and kayak second. Could I spend $1500 on a nice new shiny, longer, thicker, heavier yak with all the storage space and bells and whistles? Yep! Would it catch me more fish? Nope! This is a fun kayak, that doesn't mind getting dirty or banged up a bit. It is comfortable for long hours of fishing. It is stable enough for you to turn sideways in the seat and cool your legs and feet while you fish, it is even stable enough to throw a cast net while kneeling. Plain and simple, it is a functional, no frills kayak that will get you where you want to go. I would even feel comfortable taking this kayak offshore fishing on a 1-3' day. March 21, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Does the job Overall I am pleased with this kayak. I went to Dicks with the intentions of purchasing A Future Beach Trophy 126. I was disappointed that the only color they had in stock was yellow and when I sat in the future beach I was disappointed with how small the cockpit was. I then noticed the nice green Patomac Tidewater 100 sit on kayak. The display model was the last one in stock and had a few scratches on it. I was told that they would give me $50 off because of this. When I sat on it I was instantly hooked on the sit on top. Way more comfortable and functional. The seat in this kayak is great and it supports you back well compared to other kayaks I have paddled. I bought the kayak and have been very pleased with it overall. Tracking is marginal at best, but this is not a $1,000 touring yak so whatever. It handles rough water great and you can climb in and out of it in deep water without tipping over. Because its a sit on top it doesn't fill up with water. I weigh about 170lbs and find that the scupper holes work well. They let water out but don't let water in. I suppose if you were heavier you may want to plug them. The front rod holder is not the best quality but it does the job. I plan on adding a fish finder to it at some point. I am happy with the kayak and would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive fishing setup. July 18, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Still a Good Trade Off A friend recently bought a 65 lb. 12 ft. Field & Stream for fishing. While I prefer it to mine I still feel it was a good trade off because I didn't want to load the yak on top of my SUV alone. This yak is only 45 lbs and at 10 ft. I can easily throw it in the back of my SUV. It holds a line in the water with a bit of practice using short strokes. It isn't fast and it isn't as stable as a heavier longer yak but I enjoy the ease of handling it on my own and it's perfect for my needs. I don't regret the buy at all. May 14, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great buy for the money!!! When I first got this I was not overly impressed with the tracking, however after reading some rowing technique articles and spending more time on the water, I must say that it tracks much better. I fish in it and feel that it meets all my fishing needs, still not as luxureous as a bass boat but how could it be? Its easy to load and unload....after 2 years I am very very happy that I got it June 19, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stable, tough, and reliable Ok so I bought this kayak late this summer and my being only sixteen I wasn't able to spend a lot. so this was the one for me and me being a 240 pound football player I was heavy and thought that my weight would effect it. NOPE it didn't do anything I wish it had a dry box so I could mount a fish finder easier. And also if you do get it you might think the shell of the kayak is weak. That's not the case I've taken this thing everywhere creeks, lakes, rivers, ponds, and want to visit the swamp. I've ran it over sharp rocks, gravel, logs and even a metal cage it's very good for the price and I would buy another one I now need to upgrade as I get better at fishing! December 7, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it!!! Great for petite females Just got this and, though the green wasn't my favorite color of choice, it is awesome in terms of my being able to handle it. I'm 5'2" and almost 60, so it was important that I can maneuver this myself. Not only is this my first kayak, it was my first time ever kayaking this past weekend on the New River near Pembroke. I thought it tracked very well and was super stable. I was worried about what it would take to flip it, so in shallow calm water, I sat sideways with my legs over, moved around a lot and even rocked it back and forth with no tipping over. Having flipped in a canoe in fast rapids, this was important. The seat was extremely comfortable. Not just a great buy for the price, but a great kayak, period! Can't wait to go out again! taking the fishing gear next time. Oh, and my husband said he would paint it pink! i think it's perfect just the way it is. August 12, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Over a month of owning this thing. Still enjoying how easy it is to load up and unload in the bed of my pickup. That is still number one. Found no major flaws. Tracking is best on short slow paddle strokes. It's very easy to turn and for a lazy paddle while fishing it does what it's supposed to. You are not working your butt off unless you are trying to get somewhere fast. Durable? Just had a snap back bowfishing from it and it the side of the kayak. I thought for sure I put a whole in it. Only a scratch. I am tickled I gave this thing a chance and it's just perfect for what I want to use it for. July 19, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding Kayak I bought this kayak 9 months ago and have used it multiple times per month in large lakes, small lakes, rivers, saltwater marshes and saltwater bays. I catch bass, stripers, trout, redfish, and others. I have been very happy with the way this kayak performs. It is light but durable. I have made a few modifications to fit my needs. I added additional foam to the seat, bungee cords on the bow, and added an anchor trolley. It does everything I need it to do to get me to the fish. It tracks fine and is highly maneuverable. I definitely recommend this kayak. April 10, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Perfect for Female Angler! Dick's offered EXCELLENT customer service! We bought this 1 for me and the F&S Eagle Talon for my husband - this is perfect for me in terms of carrying weight & length - it fits right into the truck & I can handle it without help - it is very fast on the water & very easy to maneuver vs. the F&S Eagle Talon which takes more paddle strokes to get going & make turns - doesn't hold the line as great so more strokes to keep on line but less effort than F&S, but overall to move it doesn't require as many strokes as a heavier, longer yak - it does wiggle more than F&S when getting in & out & wiggles when dog moves around, but didn't tip even when dog tried to jump off - we did get wet & water came on - I did try the F&S & took more effort for me to maneuver & I could not carry it more than 2 steps - as a beginner I love the ease of use, length & weight May 25, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best all purpose kayak... This is by the far the best all purpose kayak I came across. I researched all retail stores and manufactures of kayaks. I have been kayaking for 10+ years and finally found a kayak I feel checked all the boxes, 10ft, 45 pounds, tracks forward and backwards very well, Very stable and well built. I bought 2 for my Son and I. The only thing I am going to do to it is install a cargo strap kit to the front deck for additional storage. The seat will eventually get upgraded for longer outings, but it is fine for now. May 23, 2012
