Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very, very good after 2 yrs of use... Recommended -> As a canoeist/kayaker for 47 years, I've tied/racked/trucked a lot of boats. I can recommend the quality of the Malone racks... sturdy frames, reliable attachment system to the car/van, good padding to avoid damage to the boats, good sturdy straps for securing the racks & boats. For two years now I have been using 2 sets of these Malone J-Racks which can stay attached to the vehicle but can be folded down when not in active use. I've transported boats hundreds of miles to upstate NY and New England at highway speeds without a problem with them. Getting the racks folded or locked upright back into place for use is very easy and can make setting the straps before racking the boat a tad easier than a stationary rack. I also like the idea of calling less attention to the fact I have the racks on the SUV when I don't have a boat loaded and have the racks folded... also cuts down on wind resistence and noise. For a few dollars more than the stationary racks, you should shop around for a deal on this type of Malone fold-down racks. December 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Everything it needs to be. This rack holds my kayak firmly in place everywhere I go. It took me a few minutes (and tries) to get it put together, but once you figure it out its easy. Very sturdy and I like the fold down feature so I can leave it on my car. No whistling or vibration at all when empty. Wish it were slightly less expensive. My $250 kayak is starting to cost me a fortune in accessories. July 23, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Solid and easy to install I have only used these a couple times so far, but they seem to hold the kayak well. They are easy to attach/detach and the fold-down feature is nice. I made a 30 mile trip at speeds up to 50 mph (on a very windy day) and everything stayed in place. I wasn't even using the bow/aft tie-downs. My only complaint is they are designed more for square crossbars, not oval-shaped like mine. There is a groove at the base of each carrier to fit over a square-shaped crossbar. As a result, there isn't much thread left for me to screw on the mounting hardware, but enough to keep them secure. These carriers would be best with square-shaped crossbars. April 15, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Fit I bought the Downloader Rack and noticed that for my 2006 Nissan Xterra it needed these extra long bolts in order to fit the factory crossbars. I contacted the manufacturer for asistance and they shipped the long bolts instantly. I have used the rack once so far and my kayak fit nice and snug in the cradles and strapped up perfectly. Very pleased with this rack system. April 16, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by As advertised and more Purchased two sets to haul 2 kayaks on a 2012 Suburban. Works as advertised, and didn't need the front and rear tie downs - only the straps. Observed others in the campground using Yakima and Thule racks, and the Malone seems the most robust and foldable feature was handy when not in use. Would recommend to anyone. 4 hours of highway driving each way with no issues. June 30, 2015
