Rated 4 out of 5 by Mikey Slightly Modified mine Going into my third season of using this canoe. Installed a Mercury 3.5 hp. motor on mine although they recommend a 4 hp. Removed the rear plastic seat and fabricated a replacement wooden base with a rotating backed seat. Installed running lights, bilge pump, and fish finder. I take it out on lakes and rivers, it's very stable and have no problems with wakes or rapids. Does take 2 people to load on roof rack. Take note, you have to write the company to get a bill of sale to title it to use a motor, at least in my state. Problems: the stern had 2 protrusions at the bottom which when dragged on the ground wore thru. I had to install metal rails to prevent that afterwards. The company had a kit on their website available to reinforce the wear areas. When installing a fish finder you can't glue it to the hull bottom due to the extreme thickness of the plastic. Would recommend a trailer for this model but not necessary. Pros: Good cheap alternative to an all around boater. I use it for camping, fishing and river day trips. The best part uses less than 1 gallon of gas a day. holds 3 people with gear easily. Would be nice if the company offered the following options: replacement high-back rotating seats, a boat cover, custom trailer, and even a lighting system. May 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by MORKAR FANTASTIC THIS IS A WONDERFUL CANOE. The Old Town Saranac Square Stern Canoe and I have been hanging out on the river now for years. I couldn't ask for a better companion. This is the most reliable canoe on planet earth. The three basic bench-style seats also support me and never let me down. The square back motor mount made it extremely easy to attach my motor. When the water get rough I always have my Old Town Saranac on my side. God Bless. April 7, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Rich Very cheaply made!! I bought this canoe as I wanted a little larger one then what I had, the smaller one being an old town square stern made in early 90's. I liked the size of the new canoe being 2 ft. longer, deeper and wider. First time we used it, I felt like the bottom flexed so much that I was going to step right through it. We took the canoe home, turned it over and found the bottom had 4 large concaves in it, put some weight on it and it would straighten out. Called Dicks sporting good and they told me that they would replace it. Turned the next one over to make sure that the bottom was even across it before taking this one home. It was much better but still had some slight waves in it. I still feel that the second canoe is somewhat better than the first, the quality is very poor for being an old town. Going to sell it and look around for a better made one come spring. March 15, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by paleobum Made on Monday! When I was younger my father would always say"Don't buy a car made on Monday"! He was refering to poor craftmanship by people who were hung over from the previous weekend. I just picked up my new canoe and I'm convinced it was made on a Monday. Six of the plastic? pop rivets were missing. Three more were not all of the way into the two pieces of the hull that they were designed to bond. The screws for the three seats were loose and the floor aft by the stern was warped. Ten stainless steel screws later I felt confident enough to take it to sea. If I hadn't bought it just two days before the recent $250.00 price increase it would be heading back to the crosseyed technicians from where it came. But even with the recent price jump it's a great deal if you can verify that it was made on Tuesday, Wednesday............. February 10, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Aquahound Know what you're buying I've been boating since 1958. Owned many over the years. This one rigged with a 30lb thrust Elec.Motor, 31series battery and 12volt solar panel. I don't want speed, just to get some place nice to paddle without wearing out the arms on the way and not pollute the water way enroute. My lady loves that and the quiet of the ride melts away any work week stress. The hull weight may be a bit much for some so a friend who can swim is a good idea. Don't forget the PFD's and some clip on Nav lights if you're out after dark. IF you know what you're getting into, you could be just fine with this canoe. The price point doesn't hurt either. Rated 2 out of 5 by slaphead Fair Warning !!!! If you intend to use this canoe with a motor, try it out first. This canoe has a very poor hull design and will plow through the water like a garbage barge. With a 3.5 hp outboard, at anything over 3/4 throttle the bow wake will churn water right over the gunwale and into the boat. I contacted Old Town Canoe about the problem several times but they just ignored me. Dicks has a 14 day customer satisfaction guarantee but I was not able to get out on the water and discover this defect within that period. Otherwise I would have darn sure gotten a refund. Old Town used to be the best manufacturer of canoes but this thing is a clunker. July 1, 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by new to water sport big heavy canoe this is my first canoe. it's big, heavy, very stable and holds up to 850lbs. it has square stern for motor. needs at least two persons to put on the vehicle, or you could pull to water with canoe cart if stay close to shore. i also bought 4hp motor which could push full load at 8-9mph. Rated 5 out of 5 by Littlebrownman Excellent canoe and great value. I haven't owned any kind of watercraft before but I think I started with a real winner. Took the family (wife & two kids ages 7 & 5) out on the local lake for it's maiden voyage and everyone was happy with it. It was very stable to the point where I could stand up in the back (even with kids moving around in it) and with lots of room too. The keel helped it track pretty straight. There was minimal effort on my part to keep the canoe going where I wanted it even with three not so perfect paddlers. I mounted an electric motor on to it which was nice when the kids started whining about being too tired to paddle. The only downside is the weight. At 118lbs it is very difficult to load and offload from the roof rack of the car even with 2 people. Definitely would recommend though. July 28, 2012
