Rated 2 out of 5áby ladies bikes and kids bike dont fit if you have a ladies frame it will not fit unless you buy a pole adapter for each ladies bike which is about $30. kids bike frame 20 inch or under don't fit either. I have two smaller frames and one I can jam on but the second one no chance. These issues may happen on other racks too. I cant really comment about how the rack works or quality. This post is really to say if you have a ladies or childrens bike ask if they fit April 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Top quality rack I was looking for a rack for my families mountain bikes. The local Dicks had a Yakima Doubledown set up for demonstration and I was able to "play" with the rack and really liked the operation. The store also had the Thule Trailway 959 model, but did not have it set up for demonstration. Because of this I had to go back home and do some online research before purchase. Both of the units were priced identically and the operative features were basically the same (straps, bolt insert for hitch, cradles, release mechanisms, included tools, etc.). Warranties for both units were lifetime limited. I noticed that the Thule had predominately positive reviews posted online on most sites, while the Yakima's reviews were mixed. The one thing that sold the rack for me, was that it was MADE IN THE USA, while the Yakima was made in [*]. The fit, finish and quality are excellent. Assembly was simple and consisted of assembling the upper and lower arms and inserting (2) bolts. The instructions included were adequate for even the mechanically UN-inclined. The rack feels more stable in the hitch than the Yakima did in the store demo hitch. Additionally, the included anti sway cages lock in the bikes sturdily to prevent movement. I will add, that two of my bikes are full suspension. Of these two, one is also a womens bike. All of them fit with minor "tweaking" during loading. This was a big worry prior to purchase. I do wish that Thule would break the "lock" barrier and start including locks with their racks. I'm sure that this wouldn't cost much when purchased in huge quantities by Thule, and I know it would be a great selling feature. After all, no one wants their $200+ rack lifted by someone with a wrench. All in all I am very happy with my Thule rack and as I tend to be fairly brand loyal, will probably stay with Thule products. Rated 5 out of 5áby Awesome My wife research Thule products and they seemed the best but I never used a bike rack before. It is so easy to use it allows me to keep the bike rack on the receiver and allows me to still open the back tailgat to my SUV that is awesome!! Great buy!! August 18, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5áby Solid, high quality/value Pros: Considering some of these things go for $500+ this rack is a good deal at $250. Right out of the box all the components felt heavy and solid, I consider the weight a plus, I don't want some flimsy rack holding my bike. Assembly took about five minutes, there were only three bolts to screw on. (not including the rubber straps, they just slide on) The included strap to tie down the bikes is a nice touch. I've used the rack a couple times now and trust it, it rides solid and there is little to no sway or flex in the whole unit. The tilt down feature is nice to access the rear hatch of my xterra without removing the rack. Cons: The anti-sway holders that were included felt like the only cheaper part of the rack. They simply clip onto the rack and don't flex well, I found them difficult to adjust to my bike and ended up not using them. Not a big deal, using the included strap to tie the bikes down eliminates any sway on the road. The bolt that holds the rack into the hitch screws into the rack and only goes halfway. I would've felt more comfortable if it went all the way through the hitch. But it does its job, the hitch isn't going to fall out, it's more of a mental thing. It would have been exceptionally nice if Thule included a lock bolt, but oh well. Overall: So far I am very pleased with my purchase. The construction is solid and the few cons I listed do not affect the overall function of the rack. I trust it to carry the couple grand worth of bikes I put on it. I may never have four bikes on it, but I like having the option. If you're looking for a quality middle of the road rack, I would definitely recommend this one. November 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Nice Rack! I got the quality I would expect from Thule. Assembly was easy. I will say that the rack is made for 4 bikes, but I barely got 3 on it. I have only done that once, so maybe I did something wrong, but I did flip the bikes as I put them on. For the first time I felt comfortable putting my bike on the back of a car and not have to worry about it falling off. That has happened before and trashed a relatively brand new bike going 70 MPHs down the highway. As for customer service I am very pleased that I bought it Dicks Sporting Goods. I bought the rack and a week later I was in the store and saw that it was down $50. The cashier was able to pull my past purchases up using my Dick's reward card. She gave me the credit for the difference. That to me is impressive and why I shop at Dick's Sporting Goods. May 7, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5áby Works well, should include lock bolt Bought this bike rack a month ago, took it on a 2.5 hour drive to the beach, bikes did not wobble, rack was steady. Fits my younger daughter's bike, not sure why the other reviewer was having an issue, but maybe depends on the shape of the bike frame. I had no issues with adult or kids bikes. Bolts on very easy. I used a socket wrench, didn't care for the wrench it comes with but it would work if needed. So you wouldn't need to buy any tools. I agree with the other reviewers, a lock bolt would be nice. The lock bolt is pricey. 4 stars unless it had a lock bolt, then would be 5 stars. I would buy it again. I got it on sale and signed up with my email for another 10% off, at first the 10% didn't take but after chatting with customer service that was corrected. Picked it up at the local store. Simple assembly. August 2, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby Good except for womens bikes We have two adult bikes and two kids bikes. works great except a bit harder to attach the women's bikes with the slanted bar. But other than that it works well for what we wanted and expected. July 9, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5áby Ladies bike doesn't fit I was disapointed after my purchase to find out that although my husband's bike fits wonderfully, it is impossible to secure my lady's bike. After searching for a solution, I found that I need to order an additonal bar for $35 that needs to be attached between the seat and stem before securing to the carrier. It should be disclosed or provided without addition cost. Rated 5 out of 5áby Excellent bike rack This bike rack was purchased for use on a 2011 Subaru Forester with a 1 1/4" hitch. We also wanted a rack that could be used on my son-in-law's 2" truck hitch, so this filled the bill. The rack comes with the smaller size, and has a full sleeve that fits over it to increase the size to 2", and is attached with a hex screw for a great fit on either size. The anti-sway cages that come with this rack are different than the ones on other models, or the ones you can purchase, and are of a much better design. They attach easily and can be removed easily and work very well. The only thing that I do not like on this rack, and also on most other racks that are available, is the inability to use a previously owned hitch lock. This rack attaches to your hitch with a bolt and nut, and does not accept the bar with lock of any other manufacturer, only the Thule lock. Having to screw the hitch on and off when not using the rack, is very inconvenient, but not inconvenient enough to make me give it any less of a rating. October 16, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5áby Solid Investment Easy to assemble . . . easy to use . . . quality construction . . . Have used about 4-5 times already in first 2-week of ownership and have had no issues. STRONGLY recommend purchasing the Snug-Tite lock though so it doesnt get stolen while on your bike ride! June 13, 2013
