RIDDELL FITTING GUIDE:

  • A properly fitted helmet is an important first step in player protection. To determine head size, wrap a cloth measuring tape around the circumference of the player's head. Measure approximately 1" above the player's eyebrows. Record measurement and refer to chart below:

RIDDELL SPEED YOUTH CUSTOM HELMET SIZE CHART:

  • SMALL: Hat Size - up to 6-1/2"; Circumference - up to 20-3/8"
  • MEDIUM: Hat Size - 6-1/2" - 7"; Circumference - 20-3/8" - 22"
  • LARGE: Hat Size - 7" - 7-1/2"; Circumference - 22" - 23-1/2"
  • X-LARGE: Hat Size - 7-1/2" and up; Circumference - 23-1/2" and up
  • NOTE: If measurement falls between helmet sizes, choose the smaller size

CHECKING FOR A PROPER HELMET FIT:

  • Interlock hands on top of helmet and press down - player should feel pressure on crown of their head, not their brow
  • Skin of the forehead should move with the front pad
  • Front of helmet should be about 1" above the eyebrows
  • Jaw pads should feel firm against their face
  • There should be no room for twisting
  • If the helmet slides easily over the forehead, inflate liners or try a smaller helmet
  • To avoid injury or discomfort, never wear a helmet positioned too high or too low

ADJUSTING THE CHIN STRAP:

  • Buckle top and bottom chin strap into snaps
  • Cup should be centered and snug over their chin
  • Adjust chin strap until cup is firmly pressed against their chin
  • When buckled, helmet should feel comfortable and snug

Looks great...but The helmet looks great, but my son hasn't been able to wear it yet because we haven't been able to find a Riddell pump. The helmet didn't come with one (i found out latet, Riddell.com sells the same helmet for 10 bucks more and it comes with a pump and glycerin), nor does Dick's have one available for purchase.??? You would think they would sell Riddell pumps, seeing they sell the helmets. I had to order a pump from Riddell.com ($20 bucks after shipping) March 14, 2013
Great quality and safer helmet This helmet is superior in quality and safety than what most pop warner leagues are currently using. Just make sure you follow the inflating directions and check fitment before each game. I feel my son is just a little safer on the field considering how physical football is. We are half way through the season and no complaints yet. September 26, 2012

Ridell makes the best helmets My kid is that one kid on the field that hits harder than everyone else. He is everywhere and his tackles look like a highlight film. The only problem we had is he was getting headaches and had a few events that could have been concussions with his Schutt helmet..We gave up on Schutt and bought him a Ridell..What a great purchase. My kid says it is like having a temperpedic wrapped around his head. The headaches are gone and he is hitting harder than ever... I am starting to feel bad for the other kids but at least my kid's head is protected. Thanks Ridell I owe you. September 4, 2012

Very comfortable Bought for my son who plays mighty-mite. The ability to customize the fit with the air pump, makes the helmet alot more comfortable than the issued helmets. Hopefully it will also reduce concusions as indicated August 19, 2012
