Rated 1 out of 5 by tkilkka Just a waste of money
This item will not stay in place, nor does it create a good enough anchor against anything on the kayak to keep the pole upright, or even safe from a fish pulling the pole out of the boat. You would be better off just cutting a hole into the boat and using the insets. Just remember to use silicone sealant from the hardware store under it to help seal out the water.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Madsurveyor It works.
I bought this to put on my Swifty 9.5 and it did not fasten right. It would just flop around like a noodle. Luckily I?m good at fabricating things and made it work. If you?re going to buy one, keep the receipt after you?ve made sure it will hold good enough for you. Otherwise, drill the 4 holes and get the Scotty.
5 stars for quality.
1 star for universal fit

Rated 2 out of 5 by Kyle Good if it fits your yak
This holder looks like it's made well and works well assuming it fits on your kayak. I have 2 sit ins (Wilderness Systems and Current Designs) and it didn't fit either of them. When I say it doesn't fit I don't mean you can't get it on there, you can, it just doesn't fit well and therefore doesn't hold in place well at all. I'm sure if you decided to tinker a bit you can make it work but I decided that drilling 4 holes would be easier and better so I went and picked up a Scotty holder and mount. I will say that it was the first time I had return something to Dicks and I was happy with that, they asked if there was an issue with it (I assume just so they wouldn't put it back on the rack if it was damaged) I said "no it doesn't fit my kayak" and that was it, they told me to go pick something else out or I could get a refund, so that was a good experience.
In short unless you absolutely cannot drill 4 small holes in your kayak don't get this, and even then plan on tinkering with it and making some stuff to make the mount actually work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Hoza Works great if you have the room.
Couldn't use it in my kayak because of room. Once you have a small tackle box there the end of the rod is in the way. It would be nice if it rotated too. In my sons kayak worked great lots of leg room for him. Before you purchase, sit in your kayak with your gear and see if there is room. Again if you have the room its nice to have.... it's nice to be able to lay the rod forward when going under low bridges.. Pointing forward of course..
get it to rotate than it would be five stars..
I did buy one that I bolted to the front and a extender to keep the rod out of my kayak and it works great.

I fish out of a small Potomac sit inside yak. This really helps and I didn't have to alter my kayak

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kate great for fishing from almost any kayak
Easily clips onto any of my 4 Old Town kayaks. Great for moving from one kayak to another instead of having permanent holders on each kayak. Does its job and holds up well. It's obviously not as sturdy as one that's screwed/drilled to the kayak permanently, but it's close.
