Great For Hiking... If You're Not In Phoenix.
Day hiking near water- 10, Day hiking dry areas- 8, Running trails- 9 (for what they offer), Hiking steep hillsides- 7.
If you're in the market for a waterproof trail running shoe than this is for you! If you need them for anything else than you would probably want to look elsewhere. The waterproof membrane adds weight and holds heat so if you don't need it then DON'T GET IT! I should have known better but after I put them on I was sold.
Was in the market for a great trail running shoe, an I got it! What I didn't expect was how noticeable the heat retained in my Salomons' would be. It took me a couple weeks of hiking/running before I could feel ok for spending the money on these. I'm satisfied now but I'm not jumping for joy. The pair are surprisingly comfortable, I mean really comfortable. I find myself grabbing these if I'm going for quick stop to the store over my light weight running shoes. The "Quicklace"s are amazing as I no longer find myself having to stop to tie my shoes every so often. I hike over large boulders and up steep mountain sides and I can tell these aren't ideal for that environment. They aren't sticky to the rocks so I don't feel extremely comfortable doing risky moves, but they do well enough to not want to spend money on anything else. Running and hiking trails are where they shine. They feel solid on my feet when I'm running over small rocks and the weight is barely noticeable, which in itself was noticeable. I'm really happy with the shoe now but when the heat gets here... I'm sure I'll be in the market for another shoe.
