Rated 5 out of 5 by Big Nate Z-lite is right!
I've put this pad through a lot. On the bare ground, through briar patches and even in the water, this thing has held its own against everything I've been able to throw at it. Lightweight, compact and inexpensive, this folder stays attached to my pack year round. Two years ago, I ran across another backpacker in a hemlock grove on the Pinchot, we talked gear for a bit and he recommended the Z-lite as an improvement over my old pad. I went out and bought one the day I got back. Shaved over a pound off my back and added a great deal of comfort to my nights on the trail.

If you're used to sleeping on a Therm-a-Rest Base Camp style mattress while canoe camping or car camping, the Z-lite won't impress you with its comfort. But that is not what this thing is for. It's for the backpacker who's going out into the backcountry for a few days and needs to lighten his pack. And for that, this thing is outstanding. I've heard a lot of people complain about its size but the truth is that you really don't notice it once it's strapped to your pack and you start hiking. Another benefit is that it doesn't take 5 or 8 minutes to deflate and get packed in the morning. I use my Z-lite inside a frame-less pack to provide rigidity and it does an excellent job of providing pack support as well as being a sleeping mattress. Just don't expect it to compare to a self inflating mattress in terms of comfort and you won't be disappointed.
