The Buck ®/Hood Hoodlum Fixed Blade Knife is built for ultimate survival. Based on a design by wilderness expert, Ron Hood, this knife features a 10-inch, 5160 carbon steel blade and a Micarta ® handle built with the Shock Mitigation System (SMS) to alleviate shock and wasted energy when chopping. It also has a large finger choil that provides control while whittling or performing other detailed activities.

Great knife for REAL World survival
This isn't a toy or something to look cool in front of your friends (although it sure does look cool). At $200 it is one of the best deals going in a serious survival/fighting knife. It's design is perfect for shelter building, making traps, defensive and offensive operations and general survival and combat uses. With a small 3"-4" straigh blade or folder can handle any type of field dressing of sizable game. Small game, birds and the more delicate parts of big game preparation must be done with the aforementioned smaller knife. I would and probably will someday (hopefully not) bet my life on this knife. I've used Reeves, TOPS, Mercwerx, Emerson etc All of these cost much more for a comparable blade and this is about 90% of the knife they are and that is really saying something. A heavy knife combined with a high quality smaller knife can make a life and death difference in your survival pack. In a fight, this or any knife should be a backup but if it gets down to it and you have the skills, the Hoodlum won't let you down. Take care of it, keep it sharp, don't use it for things that it was never designed to do and one day it just may save your life. $200 is extremely reasonable for what you are getting. Good luck. Avoid confrontation if you can, if you can't CHEAT and WIN!!!
