Rated 5 out of 5 by KayakFisherman22 Nice construction, reasonable price, but there are issues. I am an avid kayak user, I kayak in Saltwater... Atlantic ocean water... As previous experience with this same kayak, which my neighbor has, I noticed as I used the kayak, I cannot stretch out my legs the way I'd want to. This kayak is a great kayak, but I do not recommend this kayak for a person that is taller than 4'5". I am a 5'4" person, about 195 pounds. This kayak withstands the weight of my fishing gear and me, which is a BIG plus. what I have a MAJOR issue with; is the short leg space. I need my leg space. Especially in a kayak. I guess it isn't bad overall, I just strongly dislike the fact that there is NO leg room WHAT-SO-EVER. As far at the enjoyment of my smaller, shorter siblings, I am satisfied. As of my discomfort on the kayak, I am quite dissatisfied. I notice that Pelican focused more on the design behind the seat backs rather than LEG SPACE. I will also mention the fact that as far as I am concerned, I will NOT have a busy purchase history with the company Pelican. If you are a person taller than the height I listed earlier, find another kayak. June 12, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Snap67 Work Horse These are the kayaks that we use at my summer camp where I am the canoe/kayak instructor. They put up with lots of really heavy abuse and still work great. During the summer they see non-stop use, week after week of campers dragging them on the rocky shore, dropping them, flipping them in the water, standing on them, etc. They also sit uncovered in the hot southern sun. The most common problem with these kayaks was small-item breakage. We had to replace a lot of handles and plugs, and we didn't even bother with the seat backs and bungees. Most of the kayaks still have their seat backs intact though. These kayaks track decently, but I wouldn't recommend them for long-distance touring. Maneuverability is excellent. Be sure you bail these after every use, especially if you overturn. I would not recommend these kayaks for any kind of specialty 'yaking, but if you're just looking for a cheap kayak for family fun, these will last you years! January 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Drew Great kayak at a great price! - I'm an experienced Kayaker and wanted something that will work well with father son type outings on rivers, ocean, and lakes. - This boat is a great blend of an all around family fun kayak. - As my kids get older, we'll get get more singles to play in the rapids and keep this one as the safe alternate. - I looked around for months and found this Kayak to be the best bang for the buck for a family recreation kayak. - With a store coupon and the paddles included, I don't think I could have even done better off Craigslist. - Delivery was fast and convenient. Arrived in perfect condition. - Very pleased with this product and excited to get out on the water with it. November 30, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Outdoor Lover Great kayak for your money My kids and I have used this kayak now several times on Missouri rivers and are very satisfied with it. We own four kayaks and this one is definately a kayak I would recommend. Originally we bought it for the kids, but it works just as well for adults. It is very stable, tracks well and looks attractive. Many of our friends commented on its looks and asked our opinion about it, and there really isn't much negative to say about the kayak. The seats are far more comfortable than they look and the kayak itself is more stable than any other kayak I have ever used. We all tried standing up in it and were amazed how well we were able to balance while paddling! The few complaints I have are that the kayak is somewhat slippery. It's not as easy to get in as other sit-on-top kayaks. You 'slip' into it, rather than step into it. There are three different size food pegs for short to longer legs, but for adults who have longer legs I feel it's bothersome to have the shorter, molded-in pegs there, pressing against the legs. For a short adult like myself (5'5"), the kayak is a good fit, but I can imagine that a tall adult might have difficulty stretching out their legs in the back seat. The bungee straps in the front did not come with the kayak, though the picture showed them attached. There is not much storage space in the kayak, and I would not recommend using it for overnighters on the river. I noticed, the kayak is easier to steer with two people in it than it is with one person paddeling alone (Then again, it is a tandem after all). Personally, I don't think kayaks are worth the money the manufacturer wants for them, but the Pelican Apex 130 is a great value kayak and not overpriced. September 8, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Tyson Good, affordable beginner Kayak Good kayak for the beginner. I own two of them for my family of 4. We use them in in the South Florida and Florida Keys. These kayaks do not include the bow bungee straps. I'm happy with my purchase. August 25, 2012
