Rated 3 out of 5 by Wingy No "Give" To Backpack
I bought this backpack because my other son had a North Face. Even though it does have many pockets, the main compartment is to small and has no "give" due to a flat hard backing to the bag. The main compartment is more like an oval than a rectangle. The more books you put in the harder it is to get them in the opening.
My son is a freshman in high school and this bag isn't big enough for his books. If you are buying it for school books..don't. For backpacking it would probably be fine.

We love this daypack/backpack. We searched a source after finding the first one at another store locally.

We bought this book bag for our son who is a freshman in college this year and he loves it. It is roomy, easy to carry, and holds everything he needs. Great buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by J Great space, not so great pockets
I recently got this for a three-week trip around Europe. The straps are padded and AMAZING, including the waist belt and the sternum strap. The front pocket has organization for thin things like papers and a little extra space for a book or two- it's not wide or tall enough however, for something like a notebook. It also has another mini pocket in front of that one, also big enough to hold an extra book. The backpack has side pockets that are the perfect size and very handy for things that you will need access to often. In terms of the actual main compartment, it's fairly roomy. It has a slot for a laptop that doesn't take up much room if you aren't taking one. The one drawback is that when the main compartment is packed full, you can't put anything in the pockets. And I mean anything. Overpackers beware, don't leave the pockets til last!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Chrgri217 Perfect Fit
Well I bought this as a weekend bag for trips to Santa Catalina Island and it is perfect. I'm short and overweight and it is hard to fit a backpack, but kudos to North Face as this bag fits me like a glove and is very comfortable. The compartment designs are well thought out and executed. I like the side exterior water bottle holders, the bottom separated compartment, and the generously large grab handle at the top of the pack. Only cons I can list: 1. I wish it came in a light color like coyote or tan for use in hotter climates , especially since it has an internal pocket for water; 2. Price is a bit high at $140.00. Still definitely a high quality product and I highly recommend it.
