Rated 5 out of 5 by Dave44 Dave Genz Ice Spooler- Smooth I was a bit leary of purchasing this rig at first because I didn't know anyone using them. I remember when I was a kid, we used a homemade version of this fantastic combo and it worked great then so I figured, why not. The combo is well matched and the reel works great. Line feeds off the reel very smoothly with light jigs when the drag is loosened. The drag itself is very easy to adjust and evenly applies tension even in -27F! This is now my go-to setup that certainly beats out a spinning rig in the winter without a doubt. January 15, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by walt80 Too early to tell. I've only used this outfit once. So far I have mixed reviews. The concept is great. There is no curl or twist in the line at all. However the fact you have to hand strip the line off the reel to drop your jig to the bottom is bothersome. Using it all day allowed me to come up with a system. I was able to gauge about 2 feet on every strip and by counting was able to get the bait back to the bottom quicker. One other drawback was the drag system. Using two pound test for perch dictates you have a light drag. But when you set the hook, the line peels off the reel. So you have to keep a finger on the spool. I wish I could have purchased a lighter rod. This one is a little stiff for what I use it for. There was only one rod in stock. Knowing now what I know, I feel I've gotten used to the outfit. Maybe after I use it more times I could give it another star. January 23, 2013
